When Heroes Die - Modern Fantasy Suggestion Game
« on: September 12, 2016, 01:18:37 pm »

Days went by in relative peace here, though some other parts of Earth played host to significant disputes and strife, in the United States as people went about their day to day life without a clue of the events to come. Of course, the same is true here as you awaken to a new day of life in the unchanging city of Briarstone, Nevada with a rather strong desire to sleep in overcoming you. However, before our story can begin it's best to decide just who you are.

What is your name?

Are you Male or Female?

What is your occupation?
College Student - You are a student at the city's landmark university, Briarstone University, and spend most of your days focused on studies and how best to complete your homework as late as possible.

Office Worker - You work in the corporate building a small manufacturing company founded by the same family who built Briarstone University, it is your joy in life to slave away for this slowly flourishing machine of profit and seemingly endless paperwork.

Other - Perhaps you took another path, which would it be?

"Sam? Hey, Samantha, are you listening to me?"

A rather deep voice brings you back from your daydreams and you quickly turn to find the source, standing to your left you find your boss glaring at you while tapping on the clipboard in her hand. When she notices that your attention is finally on her she speaks up again,

"Samantha, I told you to have that plugin fixed four hours ago. How are we supposed to give our clients' the program they asked for if you've not managed to keep the thing working? You have by the end of the day to finish fixing it, don't make me have to turn you into an example Sam."

With that your boss turns to walk away and you're left with bit of anger boiling up inside of you. Just, because she's the daughter of the CEO that damned blonde haired giant thinks she can enforce her insane deadlines on everyone ...

'The sad part is she can ...'

You think and sigh before focusing on your computer, the supposedly broken plugin code laid out in front of your eyes and still it appears completely fine after almost a dozen solo-checks. You start to think that it might be a problem with the core program when you start to hear people gasping and chattering outside your cubicle and your attention is fully drawn away when you hear someone yell.

"Hey, guys! Comes look at this, there's so many planes flying over the city. Must be some kind of army training exercise."

That last comment tells you who the voice's owner is, Larry from accounting. He's constantly going on about government conspiracies and how your job is secretly some kind of coding program to engineer spy satellites to get every US citizens' secrets. Usually the guy is spouting some nutcase drivel, but maybe this is actually something different for a change that could distract you from bashing your head against this monitor.

[] Go see what it is.

Go see what's going on. Also remind Larry that it's probably the Air Force. Not the army

You take a moment to save your work before getting up to check out the latest of Larry's potential bullshit hoping for a half decent show. Despite the slight doubts you had about the situation, you find that almost half of the office has gathered near the northern glass wall to get a look at whatever it is that's planning to fly overhead. By the time you join the others you can just begin to make out vague shapes of what looks like several dozen flyers coming towards Briarstone, a rare sight considering there was barely a two flights a day from the city's rather tiny airport. It's not long before you can finally recognize them and the truth shocks you, rather than fighter jets or planes you see giant grey swords being dragged through the sky by what you can only describe as angels. Of course, not all of the group is strange as you do manage to make out a handful of fighter jets seemingly patrolling around these strange beings.

It takes a while for everyone to process what exactly they're seeing, but when they do quite a few back away from the glass in shock as they start muttering to each other. You vaguely hear Larry screaming in the background,

"I KNEW IT! I KNEW THAT THE ARMY HAD ENSLAVED GOD'S SERVANTS, CLEARLY THEY'VE BEEN PLANNING TO USE THEM TO SCOUR ALL WHO OPPOSE THEIR CAPITALIST, CONSERVATIVE VIEWS FROM EXISTENCE! TYRANTS WILL RUL-"

His rant is broken by someone screaming back.

"Shut the fuck up, Larry! Now is not the time for your paranoid bullshit."

Around that time the angel drawn swords stop hovering above Briarstone and your attention is drawn to a blue screen that appears in front of you along with fireworks and confetti. You can vaguely hear trumpets and a vague drum roll in the background as you stare at the uniform letters slowly appearing on the screen.

"Congratulations Earth's ruling race, Humanity! You have successfully accumulated the required nine hundred and ninety-nine quadrillion experience required for your world's evolution to a Class F- planet, a feat managed thanks in large part to your two expertly managed grinding events known as World War I and II~

Your race is currently ranked as 150,679th fastest race to meet the base planet evolution requirements! As your reward you've been given the gift of forewarning before Heaven's Descent. Those angel drawn swords you see are in fact divine tools meant to aid in the evolutionary process of your planet, I believe your race would call it the creation of Dungeons~

You have six hours to prepare, for those interested fellows you'll be given a reward for remaining within the region to be changed by Heaven's Descent, but beware the potential loss of life. For those who brilliantly evacuate the region you'll also be given a reward, but it shall be much less valuable.

Congrats, have fun!
XOXO, Loki~"
