It's been fifteen years since the World Trade Center attacks...
« on: September 11, 2016, 10:40:24 am »

There are now people in high school that were too young to remember the attacks and there are going to be people entering high school soon that were born after the attacks.  Anyone feel old yet?

I walked into the living room on my 21st birthday just as the second plane hit on the news, it was a rather surreal morning to say the least.

Certainly not for something that only happened fifteen years ago. Call again in another couple of decades.

Or not. Not would be better.

Actually, thinking about it a bit, there are people with no memories of the attacks that are entering college and serving in the military.  Huh.

Yeah, makes me feel a bit old. Also, that is one sad story :(

We've got a whole generation, the one just after us 90s children, for whom America has always been at war.

We were on a bus on our way to a field trip (this in Australia) when the bus driver heard it on the radio, pulled over, turned it up until the en of that segment, we had a minute of silence before we kept going.

But I guess another 5 or 10 years and it won't be too soon to make jokes anymore.

What good can come from reinforcing painful memories?

Technically America has near-always been involved in some kind of military action during the last 80 years.

I remember that morning was really quiet on the bus, and still so when we got to class. I'd already seen it on the news at home and our teacher also played part of it on the television in the classroom. I guess none of us really knew what to make of it at the time, like stuff like that just didn't happen. I was in second grade then.

I do remember the weird division I felt with it happening right at that age milestone, though I don't think I ended up buying any booze until some time after, having become bored of it as a teenager.

Actually, I kind of assumed everyone felt that 9/11/2001 sort of replaced 1/1/2001 as the big division point between "then" and "now", but never actually thought to express that idea, is that weird?
