[MAC] MDF 1.14 for OSX
« on: September 10, 2016, 07:41:23 pm »

I have, um, "hacked up" a version of MacNewbie with the MDF1.13 raws and dfhack bits, and it "appears" to work.  No GUI-specific bits from MDF, though, as I haven't even looked at how that works (appears to be tcl/tk, so perhaps some dark and obscene translation ritual is possible).

Would it be bad form to tar this up and post to dffd as an (alpha!!) MDF version of MacNewbie, and would anybody be interested?

I'd be really interested.  I'm psyched to play, but have failed to get this to run with wine.   :'(

Ok, well, it's here: http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=12442

It's a tar.bz2 file, it uses the latest Macnewbie (which is DF 42.06), and that bundle's alpha dfhack (so you will see a warning popup), and it has not only barely tested, but it does appear to work.

Awesome, great job man, thank you so much.  Sorry for the dumb question, is this file good to install and just play or do I have to DL the MDF, then place it into a folder?

Also another dumb question, will this allow me to play the latest version of MDF? I tried to create a new world, but I didn't see any of the new races on the Neighbors tab.

It's good to go as-is - you can run it from the command line by running "dfhack" in the Dwarf Fortress directory, or by running "open MacNewbie\ Launcher.app" from the top level dir.

They are there - I'm looking at a grid with orcs, goblins, kobolds, and succubi neighbors right now on my macbook.

Hmmm... I've been using the launcher and clicking "Play Dwarf Fortress" down at the bottom.  SO far I've generated 5 worlds, (with number of civs marked on very high) and I always get only "Elves, Humans, Dwarves, Goblins," and the occasional "Tower" in the neighbors tab. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Look in the directory "Dwarf Fortress/raw/object" - if you see files with names containing kobold, naga, hermit, succubus, then you're playing the same one I am.  Try gen with very short history, maybe?

Hey, it worked!  I redownloaded it and this time went for a short history and Bam! All the civs are here.  Do you think the problem might have been that I had switched to the Phoebus graphical pack last time?  I like the visual look of that one.  I switched back to gem 24 but it didn't seem to matter until I had redownloaded the game.  Thanks so much for all your help.  You're awesome!

It's possible - now that I'm actually looking thru it, Macnewbie uses LNP, which I think doesn't know about MDF.  I'm reading thru PyLNP now, it may be possible to just use LNP directly instead.  Potentially also the GUI, too, but that's getting way ahead of ourselves.

I know different graphics use different RAW files, do you think it's possible for me to use the Phobeus graphics, if I switch up some of the raws?  Or was Masterwork only made to use gem 24?  I notice anytime I switch, it won't include the mod civs (and likely a lot more).

Switching graphic sets does not affect entity files... What do you mean with gem 24?

Phoebus is the default tileset, if you just download and play the mod, it's already the installed set.
