According to the dev-log, future versions of DF will have world-spanning caves.  I heartily approve of this.

Maybe someday we'll see a Drow civ!  I can dream...

Judging by the fact that spoke of having a Drow civ immediately before the pic, and the name of the image is "drowsoldier.jpg", I'd guess it's a Drow. 

I'm also not fond of Drow. In DF, there need be only one Elf-like race, thank you very much. DF's version of Drow would probably be Elves that live in mountains that get upset when you mine, like how regular Elves hate it when you cut trees.

They basicaly are already upset about everything. they were driven inderground by the other elves, and they hate... EVERYTHING

so if you aply to them the geriatric hobbling the surface elves have, you end up with somthing very funny, but also an evil civ that uses primarily bows. so, ya lots of organ punctures.

Drow are dark elves, chaotic-evil subterranean worshipers of the spider goddess.  They're totally cool.

I can't believe there are people who don't like them.  Maybe you guys mean you don't like Drizzt?  Drizzt isn't a drow; he's an aberration.  Oh well, I respect your opinions... even though they're wrong.

dwarves sent into the underdark as a last stitch effort to save the dwarven race (sent by accident) they vecome pale with large dull eyes, but they are still dwarves. only now they are standoffish and untrusting.

Yeah, as player-characters they can be problematic and overpowered, but as antagonists, they're second to none.  I like the idea of my deepest mineshafts breaching a vast, world-spanning cavern system, and coming to realize that, along with all the nameless horrors of the depths, I'd also opened the way for invasion by a civilization far more advanced and far more vile than the puling goblins I'd been butchering for decades.  First would come the scouts, slipping unnoticed into the fortress, then sorties and raiding parties.  Then the priestesses and their legions, driving before them shock-troops, slaves ripped from the darkest pits of the earth, and once they had claimed my fortress for the Spider Queen, they would invade the surface itself!

Maybe I'll mod it.

Google has no reference to them. and they arn't from D&D that I know or any other fantasy genre material that I have read.

I think the term Endarkened here is a reference to Terry Pratchet's "Thud!" which discusses dwarfs that never venture above ground in their lifetimes. Said dwarfs do not consider those that live above-ground to be real dwarfs.
