pish tosh, with the right mindset, there's nothing stopping your from posting extravagantly long walls of prose without even a touchscreen.

Oh, I've mastered the art of waxing both laconic and verbose. There's  a time and a place, and this time the place leant not enough time. It was on the bog in a pub, whilst I was pooping. It was the reason I bought a smartphone; so I could poop and internet at the same time.

The greatest reason of all.

Thanks to everyone for their compliments on my last painting. Warms my heart to see someone like it.
It's also very nice to see the other art in this thread. Always makes me smile whenever I check it out.
Vherid, that shit looks incerdibly appealing. The color palette is pretty darn good. What do you do to
it to make it look like that? It's probably posted somewhere else/earlier in the thread, but I'm too tired
to look.

Anyways, I did some more stuff.
The first one, well...You can kinda see that it's been painted in grayscale and then artificially colored through layers later
It's annoying, but that's how I started it.I just wanted to work on my values, and they didn't really...work out that well.
as for the second one? Well, hehehe, that's my experience for a couple hours of adventure mode. Just kills me.
Also, it's my cover photo on facebook.

lol you have god tier painting skill, I'm still way behind on that.

But it's just made from a screenshot of the game, which the colors are due to the warm color scheme I made here:
http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=89856.0

But it's basically just one photoshop filter haha. Filter > Pixelate > Mosaic, play around with it.

Tofu, that first one is fantastic.  What software do you use for that?  That's the sort of painting technique I've been trying to learn, but I can never seem to figure it out.  I hate to blame the software or brushes, I know it's me, but nothing I've ever tried has been able to recreate that sort of look.

Excellent work! Also, what layer mode (overlay, multiply, that sort of thing) did you use when coloring the grayscale version? I've seen a lot of concept art demonstration videos where such techniques are used, but the artists don't tell much about them.
And, please, post a link to your sketchbook on conceptart dot org, where your images are hosted.

My CA.org Sketchbook [NSFW]

Yeah, I thought it was that filter. I've started to use it myself a little with various things.
It works wonders if you're going to make a color scheme out of a normal picture.
Thanks for the compliment, hahah, I'm not sure if I'm "god tier" yet. If you've ever
had a look at some of the other people on CA.org you'd understand. It really
humbles every artist at some point.

Thanks, bro, for the compliment.
I just use Photoshop ...cs4 I think? Yeah, that one. Well, brushes don't really
matter much. Custom brushes are great if you already know how to paint
reasonably well, but if you start using them before that then I'm afraid you're
only fucking things up for yourself. I've seen plenty of painters go down that
route and having a hard time coming back.
But yeah, if you have a tablet(if not, just buy a cheap wacom one) then sign
up for something like a cghub or Conceptart account to make a sketchbook.
Keep studying anatomy and do still life paintings and other kinds of studies
and ask for honest critique. In a couple years you'll get there.
If you want a perfect example of someone practicing their way to absolute
professional levels within a year or two of hard work then look here.

Excellent work! Also, what layer mode (overlay, multiply, that sort of thing) did you use when coloring the grayscale version? I've seen a lot of concept art demonstration videos where such techniques are used, but the artists don't tell much about them.

Thanks to you too.
I made several "photo filter" layers and used the "color" overlay mode.
Simply that. While it's not ALWAYS the most useful one, when just casually
coloring something it's the best since it doesn't mess up the values of the painting.

Tofu, I think you should put a warning before the link to your sketchbook (which has great art, don't get me wrong!) but I think not warning anyone may lead to Toady or Threetoe jumping in. I guess. (NSFW)

Also, I'm lurking this, and I am at loss to say how amazing every, and I mean every work of art submitted here is.
