All this serious talk about serious art and serious art criticism inspired me to contribute to this thread. Its seriously bad art, but its a contribution nonetheless. Old MS paint and a trackpad FTL.

Edit: also:

just in case its not clear...

Why yes, I am killing time between F5s :)

Edit: One last terrible sketch born from the unnatural meeting of finger and trackpad:

I have some terrible MS Paint skin tone issues :)

That really is terrible, but kudos for the entirely appropriate demotivator.

I need to get a pencil back in my hands and contribute back to this thread.

I somehow get a feeling of a noble, at the instant his mandate is failed.

Did this thing for the Forgotten Beast Art Contest at the DF Community Games & Stories:

The triumphant resurrection of that thread has spawned a lot of good artwork
worth seeing.

It's a slavering six-legged, three-eyed dimetrodon, actually.

I had a go at just scanning in a sketch I'd coloured in with pencils. Since I didn't have enough pencils, the colours are all wrong and the shading is poop. I had to outline with biro and I also tried to shade it with biro. I think it turned out rather poo as a result. I can't decide what looks less rubbish, scanned pencil or biro sketches, or my feeble attempts at using my mouse to draw things in paint shop pro shareware. Or, even worse, a combination of the two.

I'm quite happy with my skills, but I feel like there's some method I haven't tried yet that will make my work look less shit. I'm sure either a tablet or photoshop is the answer, but I'm not enthusiastic about either. I'd have a crack at watercolours, but I'm concerned about not being able to scan in the work. Huff hummm....
