experimentation with digital colouring... before now I hadn't really tried a detailed or varied figure with this kind of colouring style, and it's clear that I still need more practice with it.

I guess this is closer to how Goblins actually look in DF than the ones I usually draw. It's got the pink hair and everything.

and the fur trim is inspired by Goblins shearing the wool off of trolls in the recent DF update...

The character is great, but regarding coloring... Is it a SHITTON of dodge/burn I see, or are my eyes failing me?

I attempted to colour a watercolour of a dwarf using digital media...

the results were mixed. I guess it looks kinda good, but it's not the aesthetic I hoped I'd get.

Unfortunately that means this is not a DF dwarf.

Proper DF dwarves are naked or armored, nothing in between.

ah, no, SAI doesn't even have that tool I think. I created a second layer above the base colour, and used a low-opacity brush on a darker shade of the base colour for the shading, using an eraser to add more definiton to the shadow shapes. The highlights were a similar process, just using a lighter shade of the base colour with a slightly higher opacity and more flow.

the results end up pretty similar though, part of the reason I don't want to work with this style very much.

he really should have a multi-layer stack of cloaks, robes, and cowls, as well as a dress, a skirt, and a pair of trousers if he wants to follow proper DF dress code.

All the ruffs and fur trim were definitely "inspired" by the grand highblood's outfit.

Not if he's slamming his left hand into the baby's face. I suppose it depends on how you look at it.

Also, unless you're freaking Superman, punches don't usually send blood spraying from people's faces.

Unless he's stabbing the baby. Which would also explain the awkward hand angle.

It is indeed a left-handed punch.  If you think it's too strong, you can just assume there was already blood on the baby's face.
