Although that particular maille would be useless against piercing attacks, I think.

It'd definitely make it harder for piercing attacks to reach vitals. Wear some padding below and survivability increases a lot.

Not a troll, not some basement-dwelling neckbeard, but indeed a hateful, rude little person. On the internet.
I'm actually quite nice IRL, but you people have to pay the price for that.

Now stop being distracted by the rudeness, quit your accusations of trollery, and start arguing like real men!

That and, maille would also be riveted not butted like the picture I posted. It's just to show the pattern.

But maille is made to protect against slashing, not stabbing.

Quote from: Wikipedia
The halberd consists of an axe blade topped with a spike mounted on a long shaft. It always has a hook or thorn on the back side of the axe blade for grappling mounted combatants.
Emphasis mine.

Yeah, that goblin's just holding an axe.

Also, Comrade, your image got taken down by imageshack for some reason.

Dwarven blood types are not A, B, AB, O but Ale, Wine, Beer, Rum, Whisky and so forth.
It's not an embark so much as seven dwarves having a simultaneous strange mood and going off to build an artifact fortress that menaces with spikes of awesome and hanging rings of death.

he was just lazy

I prefer to think of it as "efficient."

Genoraven, if you mean that the links themselves are incorrectly oriented, I didn't know that.   I still have that sitting around; maybe I'll stop being efficient and fix it.

Yeah it's take longer to draw maille than to actually make it. I don't blame you for using a pattern.

The pattern should look like this. For your information.

While basically agreed, that's only one pattern.  A great source for a wide variety of chainmail patterns (historical and fantastic) is The Ring Lord's sample page.  Note that many of these have deliberately been stretched out to show the structure; in use a lot of the patterns would have the rings overlapping more.

In general, part of the shock-absorbing property of standard chainmail is in the draping.  If you're using standard European 4-in-1, there's one axis it "stretches" in far more than the other; if you're wearing it already "stretched" under its own weight, you're loosing some of the protection and much of the flex that makes it more comfortable.  It does cover more area with less metal, and if you're purely looking for slice/abrasion resistance it's ok, but for anyone who actually expects to be attacked with a sword (etc.) the proper direction is very important.
