3d software often sneaks in a transparent background when you save as a png.

I recommend adding in some ambient lighting. possibly colored 64,64,64

You know the transparecy was intended. I wouldn't have thought it works.

Also, ambient light (which I turned down a bit) just takes a bit of contrast out of the picture. Not sure if it looks cool, but anyway, here it is:

Screwing around in Blender for an avatar. Not really happy with it, but tired of working on it.

oh. right. no need for the link, I use it too, I just didn't see it.

Anyway, you could do some studio style lighting by putting a background curving from the floor to the wall behind, 2 spot lights from the lower left and lower right, and another larger spot light from the top. It will look better than the simple lighting Japa suggested.

there's two things ambient light can mean.

there's the one where the darkest parts of the image are made lighter, so nothing's actually fully dark, and there's ambient occlusion, where open spaces are light, and little crevices are dark.

You know guys, there's one problem with all that fancy lightning out of the model: People will see how crappy I actually worked on it. And because of that i prefer to leave my avatar with those shadows. But since you mentioned it, japa, I made a render with AO turned on. You'll see what I mean.

Why not use ImageShack?  It seems like a perfectly good service to me, way better than Photobucket or Flickr.

imageshack is slow, and doesn't like you to link directly to the image.

and img.ie is much better than photobucket, flickr, and imageshack.

at least for quick forum posting.

flickr is better for albums of photos and whatnot.

imgur, while good in a lot of ways, seems to make avatars not show up.

I haven't used drop-box
