their culture is Martial and warlike, with a very blunt sense of honour (you have wronged me. I'm going to kill your entire village). Goblin society is organized into three social classes, each with an associated clothing colour: yellow for working class, Red for Soldier class, blue for ruling class. The ruling class includes the royal family and the priesthood. Goblin priests serve as messangers to the troll tribes that goblins sometimes associate with.

I like the art, but they dont give the "Ah! they are going to kill me!" feeling. for one they have good posture, something you wouldnt see in a society where your most valued skill is ducking someones rusty blade. I could see an odd one out having good posture and an austere expression. but for the most part shouldnt they be more slavering and groping for meat or babies or your head?

The three give me the feeling of goblins that grew up outside of actual goblin society, probably around humans. Ogo Nolnuklat and his two stupid bruisers brothers Ogom and Dotom. while Goblins such as those encountered in DF proper and most other fantasy setting without a balancing factor for the monstrous races would be more of the Me smash you now and eat your bones, or Me sneak you to giant hole and it smash you and me eat your bones.

This is by no means against your art style or skill, it is simply that they don't fit in my mind as goblins, looking more like a riddles and games sort of sinister as apposed the sharp point object sinister.

I guess that's the main reason for the Orc mod back in 40d. Why make goblins, who are characteristically sneaky and back-stabby, more powerful when you can mod in a race for whom it makes more sense?

...For a given value of "sense", if you take the view that DF is heavily invested in LOTR/LOTRclones, and in LOTR essentially goblins=orcs.

Regardless, I agree somewhat, in that Fault's goblins aren't the gangly creatures I envisage, but he's said that his Effigies ones are Special. And nobody can fault his artistic style! _{oh god the puns are strong today}

Well, even in LOTR we had Orcs for the sneaky and Uruk-Hai for the facestompy. Except the Black Orcs. They're only mentioned in, like, one page, but the Black Orcs are aller big and strong than everyone.

The main advantage the Uruk-Hai had over the Orcs\Goblins was Intelligence. The Uruk-Hai were as smart as men and thus were able to use tactics and training in battle.

The Black Orcs of Morder were just bigger, angrier normal Orcs.

I felt compelled to contribute in another small way to this thread.

Inspiration gained from my first go at the new DF Arena.

The only thing missing from this drawing is the army of chimps that were drawing the elephants blows away from the dwarf.
