I thought he looked piratey.. the barbed tail comes from when a reader saw an uncoloured page of effigies and thought that a kobold's spear was actually its tail. I kinda just ran with it, it makes them look unique.

Draw on paper with black ink, colour in MS paint. the colour removal process in MS paint gives images a scratchy, pixellated look that you can't get anywhere else!

Weren't Tolkien's orcs goblins? I mean iirc they called themselves 'Uruk' and humans started to use 'Orc' or something instead of goblin.

There was no difference between goblins and orcs in Middle-Earth. Goblins were smaller breed, that's all.

Basically there were:
Goblins
Orcs
Uruks

Goblins were smaller orcs which lived under misty mountains. Orcs were common evil beings, somehow initially turned into orcs from elves. Uruks (Uruk-Hai, "orc folk") were orc-humans, either halfbred (orcs and humans) or turned from humans in the same way as orcs were turned from elves, there's no definite opinion.

Uruk-Hai called Orcs "Snaga", which means "slaves".

iirc; 'Orcs' were actually a specific breed of Goblin that Sauron had been cultivating; the Black Orcs of Mordor i think it was. But then there was another kind of Orc that came from that forest place that i can't remember the name of.
