As promised. No great achievement, just followed instructions, but I wanted to illustrate the possibilities of 3DS Max and recommend it to everyone interested in such designs, and also recommend the official tutorials (I never tried Blender though)

This was made in just half an hour without any experience whatsoever (except the pawn, which is the first tutorial). So yeah, even if you suck, you can do great things ;)

Woo!

Spoiler: Teaser again! (click to show/hide)

Splatters and smears are both now fully functional! And looking awesome.
Dwarves trail blood when they walk through it.

Next, basic combat templates.

This might take a while.

Basic combat is running smoothly:

Attacking dwarf bumps target dwarf.
Blood.

Target dwarf is tossed around a bit.
If target dwarf is still alive, repeat.

This is based on one of the player characters from my RPG, Raith Darkwaters the Goblin Warrior.
I wanted to draw him because of his character's ridiculous inventory and fashion choices (boar tusks implanted in mouth, greaser hair and trenchcoat on a goblin..)

his character also has zero charisma due to disfigurement caused by an Orc punching him in the face.

Grr... I'm having a problem where dwarves don't land.
They fly some distance, and eventually stop and just hang there in the air.

They don't land, and so they don't die. Which totally locks up the game...

If anybody wants to take a look, I think this is where I'm having trouble:
Code: [Select]
if((x>destX-2 && x<destX+2)
&&(y>destY-2 && y<destY+2)){

I want this if() statement to trigger when the dwarf (x, y) is within two pixels of (destX, destY).
Shouldn't that code work?

EDIT:
Oh, wait, nevermind.
WITHIN two pixels, so I should use <3 and >3.

Okay, now the only problem is that they don't land when they hit the walls. I think I can figure that one out.

Nevermind...I can't think of what might cause your problem.

We now have full drag-and-drop combat action, splatters and smears, color-coded boundary boxes
(which go away during battles and get brighter and easier to see when you hold down the mouse button),
and leveling-up (with appropriate speed and power boosts). For a while there was a capability of sliding
along the walls if you hit them and your momentum wasn't expended yet, but they were glitching out when
they got to the end of their momentum and they didn't fall. So for now, you just stop when you hit a wall.

It is now fully functional! Tomorrow I will figure out how to make it into an executable .jar file so I can share it.

Then it's on to the fun stuff:
Weapons (with materials and qualities determining effectiveness)
Class-ups (recruit -> hammerdwarf -> hammerlord -> champion, for example)
And messages printing to the bottom of the screen. All the dwarves already have professions and random names.
So it'll be really easy to get stuff like "King Urist Shinyanvil has been struck down!" or whatever. Should be fun.

Anyway, I'm not quite done with it yet, but it's a finished project! I'll upload version 1.0 tomorrow sometime.

will the chess game be moddable? Are the raw files as flexible as they are in DF?

No raws, sorry.

Right now it's not moddable at all.
And don't count on it. My coding conventions are garbage.

I will definitely have different sets built in, though. They'll probably just be hardcoded.
