Here's my crappy attempt. The setting: A new fortress in the tundra. Sorry if it's been done. I think I remember seeing something vaguely similar once.

Why yes, that is a dragon in a cage.

Darn you, Gimp and your lack of geometric tools. I had to zoom way in and draw the straight lines with a 3-pixel brush.

There wasn't a contest?

There is now, just so Flying Mage can have won it.

Actually it was 4 contests, and it won none, but came pretty close in two of them.

@Mephisto: Actually, you just have to click a point, hold Shift, click the second point and it will draw a straight line. Gimp is a good tool once you know how to use it  :D

Holy carp, Flying Mage! How the hell did you make that? Is it a rendering of extremely well-textured 3d models or a fully 2d painting?

Nah, I still think DF would be better off using the Siege engine. Seamless worlds with tilebased terain and whatnot.

Hmm, is it just the general idea of an artifact or is it supposed to be some particular item?

Try This One. Created on Vista, so there's a small chance it won't work, unfortunately. Try it and see. Aside from the island, there's loads of sedimentary stone, and an aqufifer beneath that. Odd. Nothing much else that could be considered interesting, though. Also, the lake freezes in winter, so I'd suggest building a large wall around it before the goblins come.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.
