The gnome shakes his head "No, no. That's the first place I looked, but he was already gone. I thought maybe you were storing it in your room." He glares around suspiciously, but has to acknowledge that there would be no way to hide the massive construct under the bed, in the wardrobe or behind a curtain. "Oh no, that means the construct is wandering around the town all alone, unsupervised! Who knows what trouble it will get into to without me, Bastargne, to look after it!"
-----
Mayor Deverin smiles apologetically at the construct in question. "Yes, I'm aware that you all have been very busy these past few days. I'm afraid that I will ask to impose further. Shalelu here is an 'unoffical member' of Sandpoint's town guard, as Belor likes to put it."
The elf snorts in amusement at the description, and Sheriff Hemlock cracks a small smile. "Shalelu, these are Sandpoint's newest crop of goblinslayers. The construct is named Aloisturm, the kobold is Zeratuu, the young man there is Kal and... oh dear, I'm afraid I forgot your name." Deverin says apologetically to Etoile.
Sheriff Hemlock leans forward to join the discussion. "Our message to Shalelu caught her on her way here already. She's an expert ranger, and quite a thorn in the sides of the local goblin tribes. I doubt there's anyone else with her level of knowledge and experience with them. To summarize what she's told us, Sandpoint is not the only part of the coast experiencing trouble with the little menaces. There have been raids up and down the Lost Coast, particularly in the dale between Nettlewood and Mosswood, to our northeast. A day ago, they burned a farm to the south of Mosswood. Shalelu was there to save the family, and escorted them to their neighbors. Shalelu, do you mind telling them a bit about the goblins?"
Shalelu nods brusquely and stands up. "Belor's told me of your work against the goblins - well done. I've dedicated the last several years of my life to keeping them from causing too much trouble around these parts, but they're tenacious and fecund little runts. Like weeds that bite.
There are five major goblin tribes in the region, and, traditionally, they're pretty good at keeping each other in line with inter-tribal squabbles and the like. Yet from what I've been able to piece together, members of all five tribes were involved in the raid on Sandpoint. A fair number of the Mosswood goblins I dealt with yesterday were already pretty beat up, and there was a lot of chatter about the 'longshanks' that killed so many of them. Now that I've met you, it seems obvious from their descriptions who they were talking about. Seems like you've made an impression.
In any event, the fact that the five tribes are working together disturbs me. Goblin tribes don't get along unless they've got something big planned, and big plans require big bosses. I'm afraid that someone's moved in on the goblins and organized them. And judging by these recent raids, what they're organizing seems like bad news for all of us."
