Steven checks himself for wounds, lifting his shirt up to have a look where it hurts

Kal casts Detect Magic on the room (I assume I can do this?). Something supernatural was certainly going on.

Following Kal's example, Etoile also detects magic.

((Yes you can. Do you want me to assume that you do so by default when searching?))

((Sounds good. In which case, Kal searches the area.))

((*roll* Cure Light Wounds on Aloisturm - 1d8 +2 : 8))

Etoile's healing spell repairs most of the damage to Aloisturm's carapace, and the birds that were once carved in its metal are faint outlines at best. The construct estimates that its self repair routines should be able to repair the rest and leave it without any permanent marks.

Meanwhile, Steven checks out his side with Etoile's help. Blood has trickled from punctures on either side of his abdomen, and marks in his skin match a bite. However, the wound is clean and unlikely to fester, a small blessing of being bitten by a spirit.

Aloisturm investigates the bones of Simon cautiously, but with his spirit defeated, they're now simply the sad remains of a young human. Tucked between ribcage and arm bones, the faded red doll looks upward with the uncompromising friendliness of all stuffed animals. The construct surmises that the smith would probably want the return of both doll and bones.

Kal, joined by Etoile once he's finished with the injured, murmurs spells of magic detection over the room. There's a fading aura of necromatic energy, but they're both surprised to sense an aura of conjuration magic from one of the pages on the ground. Despite containing the same mad rambling as the rest, the author of the work has somehow managed to stumble upon a spell by accident.

((The party has earned 560 XP for the trap, haunt and encounter they've dealt with to now.))

Carefully, not wanting to re-anger the spirit, Aloisturm scoops the bones into its backpack. It also places the red dog in one of its pouches.
With that task completed, the construct rises to its feet and turns to its companions.

"Are we ready to go?"

Etoile vigorously nods in agreement.

"We better get a move on. Don't want to be around when that creature outside decides it's time for a change in plans."

Steven looks about the room for anything out of the ordinary as Kal dabbles with the paper

((Yeah, sorry, been a bit busy.))

Using his ability to read magic writing, Kal determines that the fevered rantings on the page have actually managed to form a method of summoning a fiendish winged constrictor snake. While the spell would force it to aid the summoner, actually controlling the creature would require being able to communicate in the Abyssal or Auran tongues.

While Kal and Etoile work with the papers, Steven and Zeratuu search the room, but besides finding fragments of bones bearing hungry toothmarks, there is nothing else of note now that Simon's body and the doll have been collected by Aloisturm.
