You know, the more you think about it, the more you realize just how bad off the Telrac are suited for their environment.  Pale skin in an environment of pitch black.  Subsist off of blood in an environment that has had all its creatures develop skin of stone.  And with their aversion to light, not like they could get away from the island, even if it had some way to make a boat.  Really seem more suitable for lurking around developed civilizations than kick starting one in a volcanic hellscape.

You see this is Kyuu's plan, they make a race that needs to fight to survive and basically they go through deadly training hell so they all become ultimate warriors/survivors until they learn domestication or find something else that has blood in a cave or somehow get off the island.... that and it gives a good ic reason for them to have similar population to the races in less hellish lands considering telrac cant die from old age.
