Pigs and humans are pretty similar, both genetically and in their omnivorous diets. Apparently human flesh tastes like pork too, which is why Maori cannibals used to call it 'long pig.' Thus ham is probably the closest to eating your own species you can safely and regularly get!

Vegetarian. Ham is the squick.
Agreed.

This thread creeps me out. Hopefully it drops off the front page before long. :-\

Never understood what's with pork related products and threads like this. It would be like me creating a thread drooling over my favourite stapler brand.

Yep. Ham's a thing all right.

Ham is one of the foods I do my best to actively avoid.
Not a particularly big fan of pork overall.
Same here, pork makes me feel ick. 'Specially bacon, I've never understood what's meant to be so good about it.

Well, it's delicious and smells amazing, is easy to cook, and can be minced/crumbled up and put in all sorts of other things to make them taste better. Also you can put things on it. Like syrup, or honey. That's pretty much the bucket list. If you're one of those poor souls whose taste buds cannot properly comprehend the glory that is bacon, you have my condolences. Yours is a unfortunate and lightless existence.

Ham is fuckin' nasty. "Sweet" should not be a naturally occurring flavor in meat. But maybe that's because domestically people just feed pigs garbage up to and including pounds of old candy.

Are you sure the ham in question wasn't sugar-glazed or prepared in some way?

Nope. There is a natural sweetness to pork that I just can't get over usually. All the shit people put on it just makes it worse.

Bacon is ok though, only because the pork is purified by heat and fire.

Ham is love, ham is life.

I am a connoisseur of all manner of porcine culinary delights, from ham to bacon to pork chops to pickled sausage to pork brains. Pigs are one of the most versatile animals in terms of what's edible.

Ham is okay when just cooked with some mashed potatoes on the side, add some mustard and possibly some maple syrup for a better experience. Not my favorite dish, but it's good once in a while.

It really come together when chilled and served cold however. Possibly my favorite midday snack.
