IIRC DF is fairly good on that front; everyone has harvest plants auto-enabled.

DF isn't bad, yeah, though you can still feed a whole fortress with only a handful of farmers so it's not perfect. I imagine it'll be a bit more realistic once they focus on food production/spoilage/cooking. Whenever that ends up being.

Really? Cause I'd say DF is an epitome of "Throw seed in ground, wait a short while, vast amounts of food pop out", since one or two 3x6 plots will happily feed a fort. Not to mention you can produce infinite food from a thin smear of dust on solid stone, year after year after harvest after year. It might have the ratio of farmers down right... in "arrives at fortress" at least, since almost all farming migrants are superfluous all the time and get drafted or their job changed.

(Sure it technically takes months to grow, but in fortress mode taking the food from the kitchen to the dining room can take a week)

Though seed availability does depend on whether it's used in cooked goods.

Anyway, compared to games such as Minecraft for instance, the system isn't too bad.

Unless you have TerraFirmaCraft installed, which definitely comes closer with its emphasis on food being harder to acquire and long-term preservation over "just nip down to the farm and bake 200 bread every morning" !

Hehe. I'd say Dwarf Fortress isn't bad compared to most games, while TerraFirmaCraft is actively good.

You stick seeds in the ground and a little while later food magically appears. As endeavors go, not that major.

This is such an ignorant viewpoint that it's cringy...thats not how farming works at all...

Oh wow this kicked off while I was asleep. On the subject of sticking seeds in the ground and just waiting, that's not how it's going to work. Crops will develop weeds and pests that need to be removed, keeping the farmers involved.

Later on, but not yet, crops will need to be watered sufficiently, so unless you happen to have a lot of rainfall on the map, you'll probably want to set up an irrigation system rather than watering tiles by hand (in the style of Harvest Moon / Stardew Valley, at least early on). I'm also planning to have some kind of soil fertility necessitating either moving or leaving some crop patches fallow for a year every so often, perhaps incorporating fertilizer when animal husbandry is implemented. That's mostly all somewhere in the "early alphas" stage of the backlog.

Looks great, and I love the attention to detail on barrels actually requiring hoops and such!

Might I recommend, incidentally, getting some music to background your videos before the Kickstarter campaign? It can really help a situation on screen feel more alive

Thanks! And yep good point, I do keep forgetting to add background music to videos like that. The Kickstarter will have a lot more TLC for sure :)

Yes, I saw that!
How's the whole design a settler thing gonna work? Surely not everyone who pays can get their own settler designed in the game?
