Been a while since I've been able to post some visible updates as there's quite a lot on the go at once to get the playable prototype ready!

Here's a fairly rough first look at furniture placement in rooms:

If you're interested in the game and following along, please consider supporting our Thunderclap campaign to announce the Kickstarter

I know it's a big ask to allow an app to post to your Facebook or Twitter, so we'll be giving a free copy of the game to every 1 in 10 supporters!

I'd like to but that application don't just tweets, but snoops all my tweet account data and asks for far more permissions than what I'm comfortable with.

Totally understandable! Unfortunately it's Twitter's permission model that the minimum read/write level is a lot of access to your account - they don't do a "only post tweets" fine-grained permission. Completely understand, it is a big ask, I'm hoping that Thunderclap being relatively well-known won't put too many people off. Appreciate the support still!

what? no. I do this for a living. you can totally prime a tweet and have people share it without asking for all that.

Instantly yeah, but I'm not so sure at a certain time on a certain date, surely you'd need a Twitter application to do that? If there's an alternative, less-intrusive way to get people to sign up to tweet in March it'd be great :D

Following on from previewing the tools, they're now in the hands of the dwarves and being used as part of their jobs!

This video shows a few things together: designating mining and chopping trees, laying out a stockpile, and getting to see the dwarves carry out these tasks and haul resources around.

I know the tools are the primary focus but look at that gorgeous lighting. Oh god...

Really nice lighting - although I'd personally soften it a bit and make it sort of...gently flicker. At the moment it looks like they're holding flashlights rather than torches.

With enough work and polish, it could have been a forgettable flash game on Kongregate.

Looked to me more like that light was following the mouse as some sort of ambient player focus. But, yeah, actual torches and stuff should be softer.

Neat looking stuff regardless.

I was looking at how it affected the sprites. It gives them a nice illusion of depth and material.

Yeah the light is following the mouse for now, but they're also be lanterns and torches carried by the dwarves *very* soon :) I would like to have it flicker and more around a little like a naked flame does but it's a tricky one to get right. There's also a performance benefit from not having to recalculate the light polygon every frame if they stay still and don't flicker, but I'll definitely have a crack at it at some point. Thanks!

Happy to finally have brought a bunch of things together to have dynamic light sources on characters - miners' helmets in this case!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9idXXFG_JQc

This also introduced a Dwarf Fortress-like set of "tags" for modding such as marking the helmets as having a coloured light source attached, plus the fact they hide the hair layer.
