Friendly Goblin...Bug or intended?
« on: August 29, 2016, 07:00:50 pm »

I'm playing Fortress Mode and things go as expected, one goblin siege first year, at least 8 goblin thiefs but when i set up my tavern and temple, after a few human poets, bards and soldiers comes a friendly goblin to visit my fortress.

If it is intended, does that mean that i could be allies with the goblins?
In that case can i get a goblin caravan?

Here is a link to the video (the goblin comes at min 16:15) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4JmACudBqU

PD: Ignore my spanish muttering at will xD

Sometimes one civilization will take over the city of another civilization. If the humans take over a goblin city, then the goblins there will all become friendly citizens of that human civilization.

You can't get goblin caravans unless you mod the game.

You can't be allies with a goblin civilization, but you can be allies with a human, elvish, or dwarven civilization that consists entirely of goblins.

They're probably goblins from a human civ. Did you look carefully through the entire history of the world? People emigrate, towns are taken over, towns are retaken, pits are settled by elf invaders, refugee goblins flee from forgotten beasts to abandoned caves only to be invaded 200 years later by humans. They integrate, they go to visit the local dwarf fortress.

There's a huge amount of population movement in Dwarf Fortress. Almost every civ has citizens of other races living in it. Some goblins rise to become lords, barons and royalty. Others become master cheese makers.

Just look up the goblin in question, you have his name, so you can find out anything you like about him. Where's he from? Who are his parents, what's his occupation ? It's all right there in Legends to check (easier with Legends Viewer util).

The only time a genuinely evil goblin from an genuinely evil goblin civ will visit you is as part of a performance troupe. Because...art diplomacy...or something... :)

That Legend Viewer Utility is amazing!!! I found out who she was (it was a female goblin)

She was from a nomadic group of goblins, they were 3 in total. The goblin group doesn't have any events, but their leader has "Great Pacifier" as a skill, maybe that has something to do.

So maybe some nomadic tribes aren't necesarely hostile. Will continue the research, and report any findings.

The goblins n came to your tavern/temple/library, then it is a 'visitor'. 'Visitirs' are always friendly. You can actually get a goblin 'visitor' to fight with a goblin 'hostile'

Does that result in loyalty cascade if they hail from same civ?

Goblins (and kobolds) from goblin and kobold civs won't come to visit. There's a check before they go out visiting to see if they'd be welcome.

Dance troupes are exempt from this because I guess the game sees them as independents or something.

Come to think of it, Legends Viewer may say 'nomadic group', but it might actually be a dance troupe. Check in real Legends Mode to see for sure (search for the name of the group). Legends Viewer is good, but it misses some stuff.

I got goblin visitors.
Unless they're entertainers you got goblin visitors from the goblin population of your nearby human civs or your own civ. Check their names. Check their histories.
