Yes. It's a quite often thing when things that people don't consciously remember continues to affect them on the subconscious level. A lot of phobias are like that.

But really, as much as I doubt it would work for another person (because our minds are highly, highly individual), you can try the following:

1) imagine your inner world that's full of various good and pretty stuff that you secretly feel like you value the most and that you keep separated from yourself,
2) you also should imagine yourself in a comfortable "flight" position, with your arms out to the sides and everything, as if you were suspended in zero-gravity, then
3) imagine that there is some kind of mental barrier between you and your inner world that differentiates them apart - here you should tense your mind slightly, but not too hard, to simulate the pressure that your inner world puts on you,
4) and then just sort of, uh, imagine it stop stopping the inner world from invading and penetr permeating yourself, let yourself be submitted to the little wishes of your inner mind-world and let it control what's left of your sense of "you", let it go™ - here you should be still maintaining some of the mental tension from before to not let it just all dissipate, quite tricky to do.

if it works, you'll know it, the sensation of your sense of "self" being changed and/or partially replaced with someone else is nearly impossible to mistake for anything else.

then you just have to kind of work it out with your inner alter-ego so that they don't try to suddenly occupy your body at an inappropriate time, or overwhelm you with inexplicable happy/sad feelings, or other similar weird stuff, it depends on how good you are at agreeing with yourself though, so I can't say anything concrete about that, except for one thing - don't forget that your alter-ego is still you, and keep reminding them about it until they unconditionally agree

and then you'll just have to mentally ask that alter-ego (via direct thought transfer or through significantly slower mental verbalization, it's your choice) to do various, ahem, stuff in your mind that you feel like you want to happen, and voila - awake lucid dreaming! Warning: may cause critical loss of productivity (due to unparalleled sensation of stuff-related happiness).

There's still your old pal the Holy Ghost though, which is a weird energy thing that suffuses all things holy and such, and probably has no real gender that we know of. And hey, there's Jesus, commonly depicted as gentle, long-haired, pure and submissive to his ultimate fate. tried this, just ended up feeling weird in my stomach and got a boner, but also felt extreme dysphoria, dunno if that was intentional :v

Hm.

Okay I don't exactly know what this "dysphoria" thing is, but if it's that thing where you feel mad uncomfortable about yourself, then yes, this thing can cause that. Keep trying more, though, it should eventually get better.

Oh, and also before I forget, you probably also need to do the reversal afterwards. So, like, points 4 and 3, but you instead push your clingy inner world outside of your control room and mentally seal the path with a barrier so that you start feeling like yourself again.

It might also help if you try to anthropomorphize your inner world, somewhat. It was fairly natural to me, but I don't know if that's a thing that is natural for anyone else.

Apart from obviously the Islamic tradition being a reversioning of the Christian tradition which is a reversioning of the Jewish tradition, which itself was based off of traditions that included a female godhead in various capacities, if I said "Ninja > Pirate > Zombie" (or any order you would care to accept, in that highly controversial statement) why would the Ninja be considered a Pirate?  A ninja is a ninja, a pirate is a pirate and a zombie is a zombie.  (Each may also be one and/or the other class, as well, and that includes both Ninja Zombies and Zombie Ninjas.)

And in any language where one has to make a clear choice of Masculine and Feminine (Arabic is exactly that, so far as I am aware), there has to be a polar choice made by the person, or else go through convoluted hurdles to say the equivalent of "It" whilst retaining the deference one wishes to apply to the version of the almighty concerned...

Someone makes the choice, and that someone was a man. Whether he (or his inspiration) intended it, this choice then gets instantiated by others and accidentally/willfully taken as more literal than the original mere literary convenience.

(Gender is a sociopolitical issue not limited to religion, in short. If I had mentioned seeing my doctor, the other day, and then go on to say she told me something about my health, would you have avoided the obvious initial but incorrect assumption? Or (over)compensated at the risk of him being male after all? Before going off into further realms of possibility.)
