If you wind all of that wire around the outside of the submarine in a couple months it emerges as a beautiful aeroplane butterfly.

I have long wanted to play Melee Security and actually have it matter, but I haven't figured out how to make it really worthwhile yet.   Maybe someday i'll be able to swim escort for the submarine and axe any inquisitive crawlers.  Regardless of what I play though I can never escape Inventory Hell.

I've never had much luck with Melee.  I think the sea beasties just straight up own the player in melee.
I usually go SMG as my weapon of choice.  It can kill reliably without a reload. Reloading is death.

But those few times I join games, I've decided to Always Engineer 1.  You know, the dude that comes with a *free* fuel rod every time they spawn. Nothing better.

From what I understand, the purpose of melee is to non-lethally incapacitate misbehaving cremates. At least that’s what a baton to the back of the head does.

Security is not just about protecting the sub from monsters, but maintaining order in general.

You can fake being able to run on water. You can't fake looking cool when you break your foot on a door and hit your head on the floor.

If karma's enabled the game will first embarrassingly cripple you with reversed controls and random stuns, and then just straight up autokick you, which makes the aforementioned asswhoop-based crew control really impractical.  If it's not, then sure, maybe, but personally I hate that kind of gameplay and atmosphere.

However, with the melee tree, a security guy basically becomes a torpedo.  Consider the following:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Barotrauma/comments/ra95mx/boarding_axe_my_beloved_this_isnt_even_with_max/

It makes you pretty chunky too.  I know one time I got direct-hitted by a railgun shell from a thalmus as melee sec and after the 20 second stun I woke back up, patched myself back up from 2% hp, boarded the wreck and killed the brain.

I guess I'm just complaining that it's not as safe as just plugging away at stuff with a gun, which, I guess I really shouldn't be.  I will say though that stuns definitely are effective though, I really enjoy punching out raptors with stunclub/knife.

Also yeah engi's really a solid pick for joining into random games.  They got some crazy stuff in their tree even if you ignore the free fuel rod.

Barotrauma is now 5.99 just before leaving early access!

I've been eyeing this since forever. But I'm put off by the coop nature of the game. How playable this is in singleplayer?

I've almost never played multiplayer. I love single player.
It has been surprisingly fun to just goof off.
"Steam playtime: 157 hours" Although at least half of that is probably just playing around in the Sub Designer...

If you end up getting the game, I do recommend trying the multiplayer experience though. It can sometimes be difficult to find a lobby where people are taking things seriously, but big submarines only make sense in multiplayer.

But it can sometimes be difficult to get a decent connect to the Interwebz... :'(

I found a neat group of people to play serious Barotrauma games with. You need to join the discord though. They play other games too so maybe check those out.

Alright, SP is good. Very good even. Shame it's so clunky in places.

Shuttles. What are they. Where are they. How are they (added to a sub). Question mark times three.

Nobody? Come on, Euchre - you said you had spent days in the sub designer. I want to add a detachable shuttle to a modified Berilia, and I've no idea what I'm doing.
So far, I've copied one of the pre-made shuttles into the Berilia design. I'm going to modify both to have a pair of vertical docking ports. I'm planning to make a docking bay where the cargo bays are.
But I don't know what makes a shuttle a shuttle, and not a static part of the larger sub (like the pod in the Winterhalter). Do I have to designate it somehow? Or does being separated by a docking port suffice? And will it upgrade its hull together with the mothership? I.e., will the glass cockpit and shuttle walls survive deep diving?

Oh, great. The changes to the copy-pasted shuttle didn't save with the rest of the ship. I'm guessing I'll have to modify a separate design and then add it somehow?
