That scarf...

"Can any energy be easily transmuted into 'fire'? And can we modulate the velocity of our 'fire' to create light?

What device is required to hold a fire spell?"

"Light, by definition, is an energy travelling so fast it surpasses all distance in an instant. Clearly, an ability to defy time is needed to travel any distance in an instant, so to create light one must learn Time magic.

Harvesting energies in the world and turning them into magical energies is more involved than it sounds. When a person casts a spell, the energy for the spell is supplied by the soul, while the form of the spell is defined by the Manas used. If a spell involves a soul it is surely possible, but it as for funneling energy into a soul, that requires some finesse. Fortunately, Fire is a relatively pure form of energy, so it is possible to absorb fire into the soul and produce fire. As for less pure forms of energy, it is rather difficult to directly absorb those and transmute them into fire.

Why, a staff! Staves hold all spells. It is about as simple as it sounds. But I need to explain how to make a spell first..."

"Ah, my apologies! I overreached! Please, by all means have your turns!"

"Personally, I don't see why this discussion needs to be had," starts the blue-haired woman. "Clearly, nobles are not in a position to lose their privileges. They can be killed, certainly, but they will always retain certain advantages and regardless of circumstance they are usually better-trained than the average member of the populace,"
She yawns spontaneously. "So, why don't we see more towns where magicians are in control? Certainly mage can defend against mage."

...I'll let someone else set up to the plate. I don't really want another staff to the head.

Let someone else contribute to the discussion.

"It's easy for a trained magician to confirm visually if you extend your Kahigan from your body. Are you concerned about yours? I can begin teaching how to extend the Kahigan, and check yours when the time comes."
The greenskin student also raises a hand. "Me too?"
"Ah, I don't know if 'concerned' is the right word, but I'm wondering how our differences, if any, will affect the specifics of spell usage. Different Kahigan might require different instructions, right?"

...I'll let someone else set up to the plate. I don't really want another staff to the head.

(Do I have to write an essay on this subject?)

A meek young fellow from across the room speaks up.
"I think... I think that the current people in power would be against that."
"Sure. Give or take a few centuries. Things are bound to change."

"Indeed," segues the professor. "This is a history class, after all. In fact, the role of magicians has only continued to increase."
He pulls out an easel from... it looked like some hidden compartment in the wall? But you're not sure you saw where it's from. Either way, the easel has several canvases stacked on it, each painted with maps of the local region.

"Our norther part of Hyperborea was controlled by two petty kingdoms from circa 184 to 347. These kingdoms, ruling from Homir and Altarium respectively, both enjoyed a strong word of law and a military force capable of enforcing politics from above onto their respective territories. However, in 347 Jaggedsclimbe declared independence, and the entirety of Homir's army was dashed against the fortifications built by a magician to defend the city. Altarium cross the river and attempted to invade, but insurrections at home stripped them of all power once they arrived back. Most of the soldiers chose to side with the new regime, bribed with wealth and land by the plutocratic elite, and Altarium gradually released its territories from the stifling taxes of the former kingdom.

Some say this was the first example of magicians toppling the balance of power. Given the dissolution of most unified governments since that time, you could say it was a turning point."

Dan doesn't have any questions yet and continues to absorb what is being teached.

(taught*)
Noting the curious reactions from everyone except Dan, Nabul concedes, "Right, didn't define Kahigan. A Kahigan is a part of the soul that extends out into nature. The part we care about right now, though, is the part that stays concealed. This... these we call Genes. Most of the soul is kept inside the heart. You can't see it, that is, not without naked eyes. Not without using your own Kahigan. Humans in particular have three, and the one we use is called the Me. For you two," he looks toward the greenskin and the beastman sitting next to each other on the couch. "Yours should be the Sa Re. They work similarly.

Our first little tour will show you how to use your Kahigan, and read  from flowers. Simple stuff. I believe. Sometimes we have little accidents, so let's stay away from the gardens here on this building for now."

"It's easy for a trained magician to confirm visually if you extend your Kahigan from your body. Are you concerned about yours? I can begin teaching how to extend the Kahigan, and check yours when the time comes."

"Ah, I don't know if 'concerned' is the right word, but I'm wondering how our differences, if any, will affect the specifics of spell usage. Different Kahigan might require different instructions, right?"

"Good that you asked, but it's actually quite simple: you manipulate your Kahigan just like you'd manipulate an arm or a leg. Once you get a feel for it, it's rather simple. The only catch is that you can't see the Kahigan without being in a meditative trance of sorts, which can be induced either by focus, or by drugs if you want something less fleeting. I actually have some specially-made incense stored in the back of the room."

That was misleading, if light elapses distances as such then it can't really have a velocity associated with it can it? That's not even really motion.

Raioyris promptly produces the tree particle he lifted earlier.

"Teach me. My soul is brimming with 'fire.' Quite actually.

(You'd have to write in the OCC thread, see the link at the top of the first post.

Just a character, and that character will show up in the next class.

However I think I will limit this to 6 active players for now.)

((So, light is considered to be infinite speed (but is it?), fire and shadow makes radiation...Hrm.))

"So...Is it, like light we can't see?  Like how you can get a sunburn, only more deadly?

...Nevermind, I don't really need to know that just yet."

Keep going down the list.

My studies didn't focus much on the petty kingdom's of old, so this is certainly intriguing.

"What kind of fortification could decimate an entire kingdom's army?"
