"Tomorrow afternoon? Alright, see you then."

"Ah, Murble. If you haven't found any teachers yet, then this guy can help. He holds Life classes up here. He's... what was the name again? Notabat? Nabot? Nabul?"
"Doctor Nabul, I believe. I met with Doctor Amerinth Claustad, the more traditional Life instructor. Apparently she teaches healing, while Dr. Nabul here insisted on teaching the somewhat more advanced arts of alteration. I ah, opted to go for the more foundational approach. Healing just sounds so incredibly useful, especially as a precursor to trying to change things directly.

Oh, but pleased to meet you nonetheless, Dr. Nabul. My name is Murble Moobroot, though Dr. Claustad knew that already by appearance. Might I ask when your class is scheduled to meet?"

She turns back to Dan. "If you want the healing class, Dr. Claustad is downstairs, and her class is scheduled for either 7 or 8 in the morning, whatever turns out more convenient for her students. Apparently the unusual split in Life instruction has created some scheduling problems."

Current Time: Late-Morning

Christine understands what the professor is getting at, and shakes her head.

"No, you're the first I've visited today, so I'm still free."

"Das wonderful, then! Or, actually, that means I must explain it all to you. Oh well... Sorry, you won't usually find me like this. I am night shift, see? Today I've drunk more black tea than the whole staff." (Black Tea is a coffee-like beverage imported from the east, containing caffeine and lots of honey.)

"So, I take it you came for classes? Here at the Fire Department we have all four time slots filled, and you have a choice on which class to take: Fire Magic Basics, or our intermediate Wind magic course from a Fire magic perspective. We call it: Flames of the Sky."

"You realize this is addressed to the school? I am relieved that this is how you chose to handle this information."

I do not know of any misdeeds of my father, he was out of sight for nearly of my years.

"I have long since abjured my family name, these miserable brutes would slay in vain."

"I propose a course of action."

"You will instruct or however so find instruction for me, regardless of how short it must be, on a select few spells of my choosing."

"You send for a orderly to secure my schedule, uniform and a room. After all I am clearly distressing."
Raioyris says with a stone expression.

"And I shall meet these pretenders. When their raising swords meet the savage, cruel angel of a murder and they have not provided court accepted evidence of my father's supposed slayings, then I shall swiftly rout their party."

"Their bodies will become my processions, which I shall store in the meat locker, and the surviving ones shall be placed under my vassalage for their grevious, unjustified acts against my name."

"Meat locker?" he doesn't seem fazed in the least. You read into his expression and deduce from his silence that there is indeed a meat locker somewhere on campus.
"University policy, when it comes to threats, is usually to grant the participants full agency. If you refuse, we'll protect you, but if you want to take them on it's usually allowed.

That said, you are a freshman, and your magical accomplishments are... dubious at best."
You get the feeling he knows.
"And, strictly speaking, this does not fall into the category of a usual threat. They invoked the name of the Silent God, which links them to one of the most dangerous cults in the known world. Letting you fight them without full knowledge is tantamount to murder."

He then reaches into his desk and pulls out a tray of pewter trinkets. A bracelet shaped like thorns, a string of beads, a locket shaped like a cruciform orchid, and a goblet. "Fortunately, we do have tools that can expedite the process. These are artifacts recovered from dead members of the Silent cult. They contain prepackaged spells which can be invoked at will with slight training, depending on how much knowledge you already have. But," He puts away the tray. "If you want to fight them yourself, you must give us a reason why we should grant you disproportionate aid compared to the other students. This is a fairly egalitarian institution. All students are inducted as equals."

One figures it would be best to take care of classes, then.

You find that in this school's time schedule, there are four main times when classes are held:

  • 7-8 AM, a couple of hours into the morning after most people wake up. Class sometimes spills over until noon, which is why all timeslots have an hour of space in between.
  • 1-2 PM, known as the afternoon class.
  • 5-6, known as the Evening class. Meant to go well with Night classes. Fire, Water, and Earth have one.
  • 7-8, known as the Night class. Most departments don't have one, but Fire, Time, and Earth do.

Since your Major is Time, you learn the names of the specific courses themselves:

Intro to Time Magic: Mandatory for all Time Majors and Minors. Hosted during Morning, Afternoon, and Night by separate professors.

History of Magic: A timeline of world history, focusing on the great noble houses with mages in their bloodlines. Hosted during Afternoon and Evening.

Blurring the Lines: A class focusing on the various combinations of elements used to achieve greater effects. Intented for Time minors, but all students welcome. Taught during Morning, Evening, and Night.

You could sign up for more than two classes total, but it would cut into the time you have for extracurricular activities. Most students take two.

I alter and you heal any possible side effects. Our side focus on earth would probably help. Think about living skin of steel, reinforced bones that do not break..."

Murble addressed a question to Dr. Nobul, by the way. Once she receives answer or indication of no answer coming, Dan and Murble will go to arrange their Earth classes.

"I don't intend to be indulged with your trinkets. I will face them vessel to vessel; spirit to spirit."

I will not befall the same weakness as the pitiful souls I watched in combat.

Raioyris folds his arms, "Besides the loan of artifacts, I don't see any of my requests as unusual considering the prestige of your institution and the nature of my circumstance."

"I beseech you, instruct me! This insistution exists to instruct! I need to learn a fire wind spell, a image projecting spell and the how to fill staffs accordingly."

I'll also need weapons, I'll have to make a stop at the questing clubs storage location.

"Pleased to meet you too, student," says the upside-down elf. "1 sharp tomorrow ((Afternoon)) . We go into the forest and observe, that is the plan."

You eventually arrive at the Earth Department.

Dom unleashes a twinkle of frustration in his eyes.

"You have the rest of today, and all of tomorrow. It can't be done." He lets out a sigh disguised as a breath. "And in a match of spirits, you are bound to be overpowered. No man is born with a spirit as strong as the threat you plan to face head-on."
He then reaches toward the bookcase to his side. The books span across the entire left wall of the office, which itself is filled with trinkets, glass beakers and devices, and globes on tables in the back. It's a rather spacious office, and filled with many flammables.
"But, I will allow you to read and prepare yourself, if there is no convincing you."

Raioyris' eyes drop, he appears to have sobered into a sombre calm.

"Why do you care?"

"My purpose does end with my death, they may grind my carnal rags into dust and squeeze my soul out of existence but my purpose and spirit remains intact even if I lose the ability to intact it upon the earth."

"As a youth I watched the levied men fight and perish. They call out to me with their eyes; a frantic plea before the their puny fleshes rejoin the earth. In the black of night they creep into my mind, I've been cast into pits of biting mouths, wretched apart by thousands of hands, I've watched bright lips spew the carnal limbs of men."

"There is a strength that tempers the soul and bridles the flesh. Tommorrow I will bring that power to fruition; I do not find succor in body or soul. And if your caution be true then I shall soon cease to exist as either."

"Now if you would send an orderly to tend to my business. I have a name to uphold."

Raioyris begins to scan through the books. He looks for fire combat, preparing staffs and illusionary magic instruction.

Then as he fingers through the first book, he requests, "I entreat you, what powers does this party command? Will they see my Kahigan? Can they absorb my magic? Do they fall like regular men? Don't assume I know anything."

I will fight like the noble crow, my true kin, cunning, calculation and grace.

Ingredients, eh? Good to know. Anyway, I think I've spent enough time meandering through the library. I should get on to other things, like taking care of class selection.

Return the book(s) I've read and ask around for where you sign up for classes, then head there.

Dan stops first dwarf coming close enough.

"Hey dude or dudette, where are teachers?"

You position yourself in front of a dwarf walking toward the bridge, which you just crossed. Expecting him to stop on account of your confrontational body language, you are thoroughly surprised and perhaps amused when he keeps on going and bumps into you. He then blames you for being in the way, but then answers your question compulsively.

"This duuude says the teachers are over there," he says, pointing to the row of offices just to the left of the end of the bridge. You note that there are no guard rails in the mind shaft, but also that the fall would be onto soft dirt no more than two and a half meters below, which is not so bad really. "You'll have to address the 'dudes and dudettes' over there more carefully or they'll have your scalp. Or your skin, dude or dudette." he quips at Murble.

His grey metallic hair, like iron wool, seems to be slowly burning from behind, but he either doesn't notice or doesn't respond.

(Two players have registered so far. Waiting on Wolfhunter to pick/continue conversation, Aoshima/IronyOwl to finish, and for the little debacle below to continue, and then we'll skip to the next day.)

"Would you rather I leave you to your own devices? 'School refuses to protect Silent Cult victim' is not a message we want to be spreading around town. Or being printed by our students, for that matter. On the other hand, Folstag law upholds the right of mutual combat without interference. So, blood-crazed and traumatized as you may be, we must allow the fight to happen."

He brings up a tome, handwritten in parchment scroll, with big letters at the top: The Executors of the Silent Cult
