Hey, maybe I should change my major to fire!

...

Oh right, suspicious lady. She's probably trying to get out of here without being noticed. Did she cause this 'blackout'?

((Kind of surprised dark sea green is a recognized color.))

"Excellent, then I officially request being added to the rolls. When and where do we meet?"

(The reference I use)

"That depends. As a rule, there are two professors teaching elemental basics every Winter at different timeslots. Due to Dr. Nabul, however, the only real class we have for Life is mine, which is scheduled to take place in the morning. I need to check in with other students to see if this is optimal... and I presume you could imagine how difficult it is to get in touch with the new freshmen all wandering about.

I could perhaps just postpone the class for an hour and stay within the morning timeslot, but that would mean two classes back-to-back for everyone, and that's not ideal by University standards."

"Am I mistaken that this a planned nighttime reading session, or what?"

"Nein," she whispers in a hushed voice. "But people should know better than to start a fight at a prestigious school."

She starts drawing interlaced regular polygons on the floor, using her foot. You can tell despite the darkness, because the circle is glowing and illuminating everything around it. It seems odd for her to speak like an authority, considering she is wearing the standard uniform with the white overcoat and big blue diagonal stripe over the right shoulder. And you're certain that this is just as disruptive as starting a fight.

As much as this seems disrupting, I can't bring myself to intervene. Besides the fact she's an expirenced mage, those two louts kinda have it coming.

Besides, that magic looks relevant to my studies..

Watch the show while observing the magic used.

You watch the individual lines within the polygons fragment into sections and spell out letters. Then they form words and phrases: Forgotten Realm - Where Night Ravens Gather in the Dark

Odd. From your cursory reading thus far, one thing that was made clear is that spells are written in the ancient language of magic, Pure Higan. But this phrase is normal Vist, the language of northwestern Hyperborea, and of seemingly no relation to magic. And yet here it is before your eyes, a spell taking effect without being written in the ancient language. It's as if all you read was for nothing.

The text rotates around the circumference of the magical circle. All the while the spellcaster, the mysterious girl, stands motionless. No hand motions, no incantation, nothing. She doesn't even use a staff. The circle glows brighter and brighter, until it engulfs your vision. Or rather, everything else darkens until you see the words only, and you look around. Even your staff, which was clearly visible with its weak glow, is no longer visible. Soon your other senses follow, and you feel as if dozing off...

...

You awaken at your desk, book in hand, idly recalling the events of the day. You met the clubs, found a roommate, wandered around a bit, then came here. But this library gives you a sense of deja-vu, as if you've been here before. You remember certain characters. A mature fellow with a high-pitched yet gruff-sounding voice, and a student who claimed to stand up for the poor and downtrodden. And a long-haired girl wearing a seemingly nondescript uniform.

Something happened, something involving a fight, and then magic, and you vaguely remember the happenings. And a phrase, emblazoned in memory: Forgotten Realm - Where Night Ravens Gather in the Dark. But you can't put a finger on exactly when these happened. Have you visited the University before?

Did you probe me with your 'Me' "Or perhaps you're just bureaucracy. Either that or you're some other abominatible nightmare that knows my name, I imagine by now there are quite a few."

Shit, if I try to transfer this Vo to my lovely staff it will burst into sparks: I am not articulate enough with my Kahigan.

Raioyris ceases his activity (still retaining the Vo on his Sha) and confronts this armed figure with a probing stare.

"Can I help you?"

((Peru is a color? What is this madness.))

"Ah, that's unfortunate. I suppose the schedule's just become too cramped to be graceful.

I suppose I should go meet with my Minor professor now, but it was lovely meeting you. I look forward to our classes together!"

Go search the top of the Life building for Dan.

Odd collection of words. Oh well, guess they don't serve a purpose for now. Ah, right! The book about spell casting. Why does it seem relevant to the situation? Eh, no matter.

Read the book in my hands about spell casting.

Update 10

For future reference, the school works on a sixteen-hour day with an eight-sided clock. The first four hours are Morning, the next four are Afternoon, then Evening, then Night. Most people sleep six hours, starting sometime during Evening and waking at Morning's start. Note that AM and PM are translated by convention, they don't stand for anything in-universe.

Current Time: Late-Morning

"Makes sense, unfortunately." *disappointed sigh* "Guess I have to suffer boring parts to excel in more interesting ones. Alright! When do we start?"

(Looks like your response got eaten by my browser, sorry)

"Tomorrow afternoon. We meet up here, since the first day is outdoors. The department... hasn't given me a room."

"Ah, that's unfortunate. I suppose the schedule's just become too cramped to be graceful.

I suppose I should go meet with my Minor professor now, but it was lovely meeting you. I look forward to our classes together!"

Go search the top of the Life building for Dan.

"Before you go," she pulls a blue paper crane from her robe pocket. You notice red cranes jumbled inside the same pocket. "If the red crane visits you in the morning, show up at 8 AM instead of 7. The other students have yet to arrive."

You find Dan talking to an elf, who seems to be maintaining a perfectly normal conversation while hanging upside-down from a tree.

Look at the stumbler.

He's drunk alright. And he has... a six-hour glass? Nevermind why he's carrying it around, you start to wonder how he'd gotten drunk early in the morning. Seems irresponsible, but the hourglass suggests he's going to sleep. Which now that you think about it, makes sense considering the pan-continental studentbase and differing timezones.

You figure that classes need to be sorted out sometime soon.

(You retain the magic Words on your Kahigan)

"Err," he seems perplexed. "We have your uniform in the registry. Your particular appearance... is easy to recognize."

He glances at the Wind department ruins and tilts his head for a moment. "We have something to talk about..."
The elder leads you to an office, labelled OCTAVIUS, DOM, and asks you to sit down. He never takes his eyes off of you, almost as if he suspects you of some grievous felony. "My name is Dom. I don't need the honorifics. Anyway, about a week before you arrived at the University, we received a letter from an anonymous source. I think it would be best if you read it yourself."

Spoiler: The Letter (click to show/hide)

Head up the stairs to the classrooms and see if either of the morning teachers happen to be there.

You find the office of ARMSTRONG, ZIGFRIED. Two professors in one office? Or maybe that's his full name.

The door's creaked open. With no prompt, you hear an invitation in a thick local accent: "Gut morning! Come in!"

Inside, you note the professor sitting at his desk with a stack of paperwork, flanked by bookcases covering the side walls of the office. The office is surprisingly long, and that means a surprising amount of books for a department supposedly specializing in book-destroying fire. You can see drapes in the back as if there were a window, but there is none. The office curves like an 'L' to the left, and you think you see a royal-styled bed just around the corner.

"I was just finishing tomorrow's paperwork. Today I've got to stay up to deal with all the late freshmen. But you, madame, have arrived on schedule, for which I am quite grateful."
He aligns the stack and sets it off to the side.
"So, are you here to talk about classes? Here at the Fire department we offer additional timeslots past the usual Morning Afternoon hours, just for your information. I'll be teaching classes in the morning, but if you find that a minor class doesn't fit your schedule..." He stutters for a bit. "If Fire is your major, that is... if you've already had this talk at your other department..."

Odd collection of words. Oh well, guess they don't serve a purpose for now. Ah, right! The book about spell casting. Why does it seem relevant to the situation? Eh, no matter.

Read the book in my hands about spell casting.

"You realize this is addressed to the school? I am relieved that this is how you chose to handle this information."

I do not know of any misdeeds of my father, he was out of sight for nearly of my years.

"I have long since abjured my family name, these miserable brutes would slay in vain."

"I propose a course of action."

"You will instruct or however so find instruction for me, regardless of how short it must be, on a select few spells of my choosing."

"You send for a orderly to secure my schedule, uniform and a room. After all I am clearly distressing."
Raioyris says with a stone expression.

"And I shall meet these pretenders. When their raising swords meet the savage, cruel angel of a murder and they have not provided court accepted evidence of my father's supposed slayings, then I shall swiftly rout their party."

"Their bodies will become my processions, which I shall store in the meat locker, and the surviving ones shall be placed under my vassalage for their grevious, unjustified acts against my name."
