"It isn't night, dawn or dusk, of that I'm certain. You fear you are late?"

Is her room any different from previously observed?

"Not that I have a means to find out," she says. "I thought maybe I was, but there are lots of open rooms. I've more-or-less lost track of time."

Raioyris calms down. I have an idea. Raioyris recollects the state that he was in earlier (when he had more flesh), muttering the life and earth elemental prefix 'Vi' and 'Au' reenters meditation. Perhaps I can form new limbs.

Trying to mutter words, nothing comes out, but you can clearly visualize them despite the cold. Despite succeeding in focusing your thoughts, it seems thinking about it alone won't solve your problems. Nothing happens.

You notice a short human walking up to you, treading lightly. He has a bucket in hand, but it's not filled with anything.

A bucket? An Outrage! This is my moment of triumph! Raioyris reaches out and grips this invader with his Sha limb. You pestilent flesh! Observe the budding of spirit! My vessel fades and distorts but my will is resolute!

"Really? Are you blind? Or..." Dan studies her eyes closely, "did you do something to your eyes? Failed self enchantment?"

"You want to know?"
She points at her eyes, looking over Murble's shoulder. "There's nothing wrong with these. It's a curse... of sorts. Perhaps it can be said to run in the family."

"Humans and elves normally cannot have children, because they have different Kahigan. But my great grandparents... they fell into a love so mad they could not stand for anything else.

Elves have a second Eyu. My grandmother, an elf, sought after a skilled exorcist who specialized in the structures of souls. That exorcist grafted my grandmother's second Eyu into my grandfather, and now that one-fourth of his Kahigan were elven, his children could best be described as a quarter elf."

[-] Your wing extends like a claw. It turns out you have much finer control over this limb now that you can see it and are aware of its presence. As the unwary invader approaches, you slash at him in the face, forming a brilliant burst of flame which dissipates rapidly into the air, but not before leaving three parallel marks on the boy's face. He never saw it coming.

"It's dangerous!" he shouts as he runs. More students show up to watch, and a new challenger seems to be approaching: a gallant young lad, dressed in King's purple, wielding a mighty staff clipped from a mighty oak, the rarest of all trees in this land! "Poltergeist!" he shouts across the paved street. "If you can heed my words, then leave that student be at once!"

You notice that while the Sha Kahigan is active, the 'fingers' connect to the 'arm' itself, forming a bridge to where your heart is supposed to be.

"Fascinating! I do apologize if I startled you, we simply wanted to get a look at our possible lodgings.

My name would be Murble Moobroot, quite pleased to make your acquaintance. I've only just arrived, and am thus unfamiliar with what an Eyu or... uh... Mahigan? No doubt the instructors will explain it if you're busy, Miss...?"

"Oh, but if we're sure we want the balcony we should let them know," she mentions to Dan.

"Kahigan." she corrects. "So that explains it, the both of you are new students. As am I."
She pauses for a bit, making a decision.

"I could explain the basics, but I know little... I suppose a Kahigan is similar to a magical organ, like the tongue, or heart, or eyes. Humans have three kinds, one of each: Go, Sha, and Me. Elves have four in total: A Rho, a Re, and two Eyu.

Kahigan are the much like the tongue. They can perform magic, but they also serve a sensory role. In terms of sense, Eyu and Me both serve the same role. In humans, the Me Kahigan allows us to perceive the world through logic and reason. In elves, the Eyu provides a connection to nature, another way of perceiving the world. In the end, I who have both can perceive nature through logic and reason, but nothing else."

Noting the snakewoman, she adds: "I don't know what your people have, but clearly the University would not accept a beast. You must have Kahigan of your own, whether the same as humans, or maybe unique."

"Ah, hybrid. So that's how it was. Interesting."

"I'll let quartermaster know our choice."
Dan says to Murble. "After that comes meeting with professor, right? Let's get that out of the way right away."

Inform the quartermaster that we want room with balcony. Then inquire where one might find professors.

Kyron, um...Asks about rooms?

"There's not enough," tells the quartermaster, "For everyone to get his own room. We have students choose a room-mates to share a room with. It's more space-efficient that way."

"Ah, good," says the quartermaster as she jots down your names on a scroll. A fancy one too, make from leather rather than Icecone bark.
"We've a room here on the ground floor, two rooms on the second floor with balconies, and most of the windowless rooms on the top floor. One has a window. Feel free to look around a choose; they're all the same besides windows and layout but you'll be sticking with your choice for a while." she gives you the typical old woman smile, but it comes out as... well-practiced.
"Afterward, I would recommend heading out to meet your professors and arrange your classes. After that you're free to do what you like. Got all that?"

The stairs to the second floor are right up ahead, starting as a single set of wide stairs which split off into horizontal sets that go the rest of the way up. The rooms themselves are spacious, even by noble standards. The queen-sized beds are heavily reinforced and they both have multicolored linens (blue, yellow, red) and three pillows each. One of the three pillows is soft, almost gelatinous to the touch.

This power! Ah in this form my control of Kahigan intuitive! But I've lost my ability to speak.

Raioyris searches for his body by the copse. He attempts to raise it gently with his Vi limb.

If this fails I'll have to seek out a professor.

Then if it shows signs of life he attaches his Me limb to it.

This silence... is deafening. And awkward. Lets change that.

"So, Thalstav! You're a member of House Ridders, right? If I recall, it not a big House, but still one worthy of respect. What made you seek magic as a way of carving a name for yourself?"
"My father has only a small estate. There was little for me to inherit, and my paranoid father thinks we would kill each other if given a chance. My choices were either study here, get killed in the military, live as a commoner on paltry gifts from my brother, or find a richer nobleman to leech off of.

You mentioned plans to use time magic to improve living conditions. I'm interested in your plans there. Would it not be easier to simply fund more life more life mages?"

"That is true, given my families influence. But despite the nobility's tendency to throw money at other to solve a problem, that doesn't sit well with me. Since I am the youngest son, I have the freedom to try to make a direct difference, rather then letting someone else get the funds to potentially help people."

"Besides, it's also a good way to reintroduce the rest of my family to magic. Our Houses founder was a talented and influential mage, but his descendants swore off magic for decades for some reason. This would be a good way to reintroduce magic into our family, and I guess it also makes a name for myself, not unlike you."

"Magic is also very interesting though, so making a name for ourselves via magic is certainly not a bad thing."

(5) You manage to struggle free of the guards and sprint to a safe distance before tossing a knife at one! (5 + 1 = 6) The throwing knife zips through the air, slitting a guard's throat! It then travels around the group of guards like a boomerang. It (5) Slits another throat, (Three 6's in a row!) decapitates three more (!), (4) slices open the last guard's arm, and (2) narrowly misses a random bystander. It then flies back into your hand. Holy crap.

"Oookay, so...That doesn't really answer my question.  So what rooms are available?  And are there any policies I should know?"

The old woman puts on a pair of wide spectacles. "That was the letter of the question, perhaps, but it seemed you'd head right over if I'd just told you.

There is one room on this floor, two rooms with balconies on the next, and quite a few windowless rooms on the top floor. You are free to furnish the room as you see fit, so long as you don't, er, destroy it."

You return to the copse and find your body prone, face-down, and pale as snow.

You don't have a Kahigan shaped like the letter 'Vi', but you see a lot of green 'Vi's scattered around the fields, growing up out of the snow.
