Update 19 - Early MorningChristine, who had been taking notes quietly, speaks up:
"Is there any way to prevent someone from touching you with their Me? That sounds like a really powerful advantage to have, even if you aren't fighting."
"All Kahigan can deflect other Kahigan, so it is as simple a matter as seeing it occur and deflecting it with your own. But since they are hard to see for novices, I suggest you stay out of Kahigan range if you are concerned. The Me is only about a meter and a half long in most humans."Upon looking over at the princess, Raioyris is shaken. He starts to whisper, "Forgive me, I didn't mean to torment you so,
For a while I blamed your ilk for the plight of my village. But that is immature, fate has its way with whomever it pleases.
In that hell there is one lesson I learned. I learned of grace, a flesh devoted to the cause of it's spirit is truly exceptional. When the flesh and soul are inevitably overcome, it will still return again and again to it's purpose. This grace is the power and beauty of the spirit.
I wish such strength upon you." My flesh and soul will endure all evils and pains for such ends.
Raioyris waits for the classes activity. Perhaps an opportunity to practice magic.
You feel a slight itch on the back of your head. It doesn't go by scratching, at least, fading on its own.
The princess seems to have calmed down, but you can still see the dread in her eyes, and the trembling in her hands. Her face is bleeding, but only superficially.
The professor looks at her, but doesn't dwell on it too much. She doesn't seem injured, after all. A woman (Christine) asks a question. He answers, it, and then...
"Now, the central tenet of spellcasting: Spells are an operation on an existing state of matter. Matter is made up of the seven elements, in varying mixtures. What spells do is they transform elements, rearrange them, arrangement, or in the rarest of cases, create something from nothing. Such is hard to do, and requires rare Manas, but it is doable.
For the latter half of the class period, we shall go outside and practice casting the three spells you see here. I suggest you pick up a training staff from the closet in the back, and retrieve some Manas from my desk. Simply insert the vials into the slots on the staff, and then I will instruct everyone on how to use your Kahigan to invoke the Manas...""Alright, I'm getting hang on this. So what are capabilities of Me? And what are the other Kahigans humans have for?"
Me doesn't give any feedback other than visual one? What happens if I move it inside a flower?
"Humans have two others. A Go for exerting force, and controlling the natural elements, and a Sha as a conduit for soul power."He glances your way after checking the other elf's work. It seems that dude is well on his way, writing out some string of letters on a notepad.
"The capabilities of Me? It's your bridge to minds and souls. You could use it for... telepathy perhaps. And of course for manipulating genes. But I don't have one. Wouldn't be an expert, by any means."You pluck one flower and hold it steady on top of a stone, bringing your Kahigan to bear. You focus the point on the plant's stem.
"But what I know for certain,"The flower snaps in half.
"Is you're using your Go."Something occurs to Murble.
Try curling my Go around to touch itself. Hopefully gently. If that doesn't result in An Incident, try doing the same with my snakes-for-brains Kahigan.
[-] The Go curls around and coils around itself like a tentacle. The automatic curling seems like it could be a problem to control, but it seems it will be easy to untangle as it bears almost no friction with itselfs.
Snakes-for-brains isn't easily visible... [-] or is it? You see a faint green... not obvious at first, but it moves as you tell it to. The shape... it looks like a Kahigan whose tip is like a one-sided arrow-shaped hook, coiled around in a spiral.
You curl that one around and hook it on itself... apparently it can collide with itself just fine. The hook is far less malleable than the material of the other one, so it's not as easy to dislodge itself. It seems to glow considerably brighter as you try to pull it off, but you're having trouble. And everyone in the room seems to be shouting for some reason. Hum. Makes it hard to concentrate.
The room gets a bit brighter as the sun emerges from the clouds.
"Hm?"
"Ah, well..."You feel an itch on your back.
"You seem to be getting a good feel for these. But I'd recommend looking at proportions, rather than putting the same amount each time.""Well, of course it could. Isn't that the reason many people decide to study it, to pursue a career that magic give you an advantage in?"
"I do not disagree?""The first and foremost duty of a magician is to help his fellow people!"You look up and notice that the noblewoman actually drew a ceremonial shortsword at the robed figure.
"Men like you are the reason magicians are looked down upon...""All the result of a stagnant, insufficient means of naturally weeding out the repulsive elements..."
