Kanade pats Aoi on the shoulder comfortingly, as she looks towards Miji.
"Maybe we can check out the food market?"

The table-ostrich seems to relax enough to pull her head back up, adjusting her hair once again with another quiet yawn.
"That sounds nice..."

"... Park sounds good." He seems to at least be tilting his head slightly to his friends, now.

About as soon as they start hammering out their afternoon plans, the bell rings, signaling the end of the lunch period and beginning of Hakanai's notoriously dull classes. The group gets split up by the next class period, second-years Mijimeki and Aoi both taking that grase level's mandatory Japanese for the afternoon, and Kanade being stuck in an English class.

The Japanese class Aoi and Mijimeki take that afternoon is at least a relaxing one. The teacher there (Mr. Takahashi) doesn't seem to pay any attention at all to misbehaving students, and instead just rambles on about his coursework, which is incredibly easy. Not much seems to have been learned that period.

The English class's difficulties lie in the fact that though the teacher (Ms. Itagaki) is as sweet as sugar, she tends to insufficiently explain the concepts she's teaching, and it flies over most of the students' heads. It's dizzying to keep up with, but since she doesn't test on half of the stuff she teaches about, one really doesn't have to. In this class, too, little is usually learned.

Eventually, the classes come to an end, and the three are released by the bell to carry out their plans.

A cacophany of voices.
The scraping of chairs.
Heavy footfalls.

Youthful laughter, childish groans, they intertwine beneath a bright veiled sky.

Five minutes pass. Ten. Still no message. No dull vibration, no sharp melody. It seems that for once, Aoi will be there on time.

Leaning against the school gates, her posture relaxed as always, she waits, head filled with thoughts beknownst only to her.

A new term, with new opportunities.

Perhaps Miji would stay a little more out if trouble.
Perhaps Kanade might free herself of that virtual hibakusha status.

Perhaps.
Perhaps.

Wouldn't be the strangest twist thus far, but still, she indulged in such fantasies only briefly.
Best to make not masters of dreams, nor aims of thoughts, after all.
For dreams narrow our minds to what is possible, and thoughts shackle us to our erronous contemplation.

And surely, there is no greater hubris than to think that the vicissitudes of fate would abide by either.

"Ara ara, Aoi-chan. Why so serious?"
A pair of arms around her waist tells her Kanade has arrived.

Mijimeki saunters closely behind her, hands in his pockets.

A familiar scent.
All that was needed to confirm who it was.

Aoi freezes.
As with bullies, affectionate friends, and allegedly racist trigger-happy cops, it was best not to give them anything to react to.

There was weakness in strength, and futility in purpose. When a tree is dead, it is dry and rigid; when it is growing, it is weak and pliant. And Aoi, was very much the latter here. A pliant tree. Unmoving. Unresisting. Being strangled by vines. Okay, analogy's starting to get a bit uncomfortable.

"Well, I  haven't a reason to smile until now."
Nailed it.
Hopefully.
"How're you guys? Got any plans?"

Mijimeki shrugs, leaning against the side of the wall.

Cold reading is a standard quack-tactic, and as such, an effective one. Best used on complete strangers rather than close friends one really ought to know better of course, but if Miji appears to be anything, then it is certainly cold, icy even. So...
"Well, what do you want to do?"
A pause, brief, far to brief to give someone, let alone Miji time to respond.
"Have some tea? Go for a walk? Sort out homework at the library? Sign up for a club? Find a date?"
So, assuming she didn't mess it up, and there was admittedly a pretty high chance of such, all she'd need to do would be to read off his reactions to each and hope that at least one of them found their mark.

Mijimeki looks at Aoi, expression unwavering. Except when she says the last one, wherein he looks at her as if saying "Really?".

He scratches his head. "Think I'll go home and nap." As if to illustrate his point, he places a hand to his mouth, yawning.

"Oh."
Well, so much for that.
"Are you feeling tired as well?"

Kanade is behind Aoi, having lightly tackled her.
"I was thinking of dropping by the teahouse before I head home. You two want to come with?"

He places a hand on his chin. "... Tea sounds nice."

Breaking eye-contact with Miji and turning her head slightly, she addresses Kanade.
"Sure that sounds good! I could probably use a bit of tea after all that."
