The Bearer's of Flame: Intro

The gold embossed parchment had many names written on it in a careful script which seemed to crawl and change each second.  A few of the town's children amused themselves throughout the day attempting to read what it said and in turn pondered when four strangers each stopped mesmerized by the words for a short time before wandering off.  What the strangers saw in turn was different for each of them though no less compelling.

Vibian Amarante: Daughter of the trade, should you wish to see the shine of gold mingling with the warm rays of the sun once more come to the Drunkards Head and sit at the table closest to the cellar at midnight.

Elizabeth who calls herself the Holy Maiden:  Glory in the heart of the storm and a path littered with the bodies of thy enemies begins at the table near the cellar in the building named the Drunkards Head at midnight.

Rold Ravenshield: Should you wish to save your sister, a man will meet you at the table nearest the Cellar door in the Drunkards Head tavern at midnight.

Yarra Awerick: A harrowing journey awaits you, your path strewn with foes far worse than the occasional wolf.  Your scythe is called to war, a war that only stands a chance of being won for humanity should you take up arms.  Come to the Drunkards Head tavern at midnight and take a seat at the table nearest the cellar

As midnight approaches and the Drunkards Head tavern empties of it’s patrons, the townsfolk too tired to even make an effort at a night of revelry, four figures of different origin make their way to the dimly lit building.

Patrons of the tavern trickled out one by one, leaving the establishment vacant save for the barkeep and a few stubborn drunks. Flickering lanterns cast strange shadows upon the walls and floors, with the light of the fading hearth the only thing keeping the floor visible. The barkeep paid no heed to Vibian's presence as she walked towards the designated table, casting a careful eye at her sparse surroundings. She began to think of the summons, wondering if whoever is sending for them could truly show her a way back into her old life.

Rold calmly enters the tavern. He slowly scanned the tavern checking for any possible exits through windows and the like, if he has to run from the red league. Of course he wouldn't run unless there were ten or more of them, but how would he save his sister, if he was dead. Rold walked, as calmly as before, towards the table nearest the cellar. The parchment said there would be a man waiting here, not a woman. Rold says to the woman sitting before sitting down on a chair by the table. He than puts his hat on the table and awaits a response.

Having left the Apothecary shop she made her way to tavern the parchment spoke of, muttering to herself 'What did it mean about a war for humanity, isn't our days as it is already numbered.' Looking around the dimly lit tavern which only drunk remained Yarra spotted where the designated meeting place was and had noticed two other individuals were also seated, she didn't take much notice of what the man had spoken of as she putted her scythe down and taken her seat.

Vibian raised an eyebrow at the new arrival, wondering if he was the man to meet. Yet as he took his seat, his words confirmed the exact opposite. Well, I did think it would be odd if I were the only one to be summoned for whatever errand this is. As she spoke, another woman took her seat at their table, to which she pursed her lips. Three's a crowd. Wonder when whoever called us is gonna show. She adjusted herself, turning to the man once more. I'm Vibian. Vibian Amarante. She turned her head for the last time, addressing the newcomer. Best we get introductions out of the way. What's your name, stranger?

Elizabeth paused outside the tavern. She hadn't been in one for... well, perhaps ever - she'd been but a child when she ran away from home, and the Heavenly Thunderous Order did not give its disciples much time to go cavorting in pubs. Their acts were typically too active to work well in a common room, besides. What would she find inside? Mighty warriors, presumably, blessed by thunder, and fierce as lightning. She almost knocked, but you did not knock to enter taverns, right? She breathed in a deep breath. First impressions counted, and she would give a good one.

The Holy Maiden entered the pub with her head held high. She paused at the threshold, regarding the inhabitant, before her gaze rested on the idiosyncratic three. She paced over, her steps deliberate and measured. Elizabeth had gained a very precise timing for her steps, in the holy Order, and her boots clunked against the floor as she came to a neat stop before the three.

She shifted the arquebus on her shoulder slightly.

"Are you the ones beckoned by the poster?" Her voice was strong and clear.

With an audible popping of tendons and joints the barkeeper stretches before crossing around the bar and locking the tavern door.  He coughs and starts to say something before looking around, scratching the bald part of the top of his head.  Apparently changing his mind he instead steps around your table and opens the hatch in the floor that leads into the cellar where, standing in it's entrance he strips off his apron and long sleeved shirt revealing a chain-mail vest and long-sword hanging from his back.
"I was going to launch into some sort of long winded speech but it might be easier if I show you...  Ugh, four generations and it ends up happening in my bloody lifetime... should of had a kid and I could of made him explain this...."  He wanders down into the cellar, taking a oil lantern off the wall and mumbling to himself about a number of complaints, the last thing you hear before he gets out of earshot is "Bloody back's killing me..."

She turned to face the new girl carrying a strange thing with her who had entered and said "Yes I think we all called forth to this place."

Yarra then followed on while looking bit beckoned by the weird barkeeper "So are you the one who summoned us here?"

The barkeeper looks behind him at Yarra while fiddling with the tap of a rather large beer cask.  With a quick nervous sort of glance he takes in her appearance before turning back and fiddling more furiously with the tap.  "No... yes... kind of...  Um I guess I was the one who wrote the messages.  When I wrote them initially there was twenty of you... back then I was young and foolhardy, made a bar and had great dreams of it being filled with your sort.   As I got older though I realized that despite business being slow I preferred the company of just regular old townsfolk, the farmers and traders.  Really came as a shock when the sky started to darken, willed myself to die of old age honestly but all I succeeded in was delaying for far too long.  Now the others are dead or missing, never knowing what the fates had wanted for them."  With obvious frustration the barkeeper draws his sword and smashed the tap off the front of the cask, it clicks and the lid pops open to reveal a long dark tunnel paved in stone.  "Mind your step miss and come this way... names Jeremy Head by the way, nice to meet you..." he looks back at your scythe "Yarra I would guess."

Vibian raised an eyebrow as another figure approached. Her eyes wandered over her gear, drawn to their striking colours that stood out quite a fair bit in this drab world. Distracted by the peculiarity, she completely missed her question, and barely registered the barkeep's actions.

She silently and dutifully followed the man down the cellar, her curiosity piqued at his words. The cellar was cool and musty, a small draft blowing in her face as she squinted to see with the merger light the lantern provided. At the end of his speech came the reveal of a tunnel, leading to only who knows where. Well, best make do with who you have, sir Jeremy. Surely even if only a fifth answered the fates' call, something could still be achieved.
