"So what brings you east?" You ask from your ornate throne.

"I bring a message from the Caliph." The man's accent is strange, you notice. "He has heard of your might, and that you have dispatched the ronin who threatened your people. And yet, you are peaceful. Our two nations, he feels, would benefit from mutual friendship."

You know next to nothing about Khafir. Only that it is to the west and full of sand. Their culture, their ways, all a mystery to you. However, he doesn't seem nefarious. He is only armed with an old curved sword. If he meant harm, he'd be decked out in more than a mere blade.

"You know", he continues. "Khafir is a merchant nation. We are a nomadic people -- or we were at one time. As nomads, we had to learn to keep our coin plentiful in amount to survive, as we never stayed in one place long enough to harvest seeds. Does trade entice you, Emperor? If so, you'll have no better economic friend in the west than Khafir. I can assure you."

Your crier leans towards your ear. "My Emperor, perhaps it is wise to start thinking about political strength. Having a friend in a nation of the coin will do us well. Not to mention the tournament..."

A) You know, we could use the economic boost. Sure! Send word to the Caliph that we happily accept his offer!
B) No. We don't want any! And don't call this number again!

A.  Unless these Khafirites are incredibly deceptive, I don't see how this will hurt us.

"Very well. Tell your Caliph that the Rennes Dynasty will offer a hand in friendship and good will. May this mutual economic relationship yield fruits of true cooperation in future times."

The Khafirite bows slightly. "Farewell, Emperor Rennes." He is escorted out of the court where he finds his horse waiting for him. He simply mounts the steed and takes off at full speed out of the gates and over the horizon. Something gave you a good feeling about that and hopefully such an arrangement benefits both nations.

Autumn 7699 B.C.

With the dynasty mostly idle and able to enjoy the tournament, you take some 'time off' and visit the fighting grounds. You are granted specially arranged seating, giving you an unbroken view of the arena below. An Aritese monk is fighting a visiting pugilist from some unknown land. After a few minutes of impressive athleticism and displays of technique, the fight ends and the monk takes the victory. You watch until nightfall, when you retire until morning.

Winter 7699 B.C.

One Winter's morning you are greeted by the Dai Li, rather than your Cabinet or manservants.

"Imperial Father, the previous night a dragon appeared, but it brought no rain or storm with it. Coming in peace, it says it wanted to warn you of 'great peril that will befall you in the future' in the form of a 'rising of a nation'.

A) Pft. Just hocus-pocus magic stuff. Tell the dragon to go find Mulan and make a kid's movie with songs in it.
B) Oh? Continue. What peril does this dragon speak of?

B

Dragons are to be listened to cautiously and with great care.

The next day, you take some Dai Li agents and visit the dragon. You were told to head to the highest hill south of the capital, and you do. Once there, the dragon flies to you with its long, curved form that seems to go on infinitely. He gracefully hovers lower to meet your gaze at eye level.

"You sought me, dragon." You aim to keep your tone respectful, as this dragon can remove you from existence with a blink. A literal blink.

"Yes. Ten years from now, your ability to lead shall be tested. A great peril shall befall your people, a peril that, should you be weak in heart and mind, take you and yours."

"What would this 'peril' be?"

"One of the Great Seals of Evil will break, and a mighty challenger will seek to destroy your nation. For 10,000 years he has trained to bring the world to its knees. It is no longer for the dragons to aid the mortal realm. We are to be impartial but...I have seen your Dynasty and smiled. You have earned some favour and with it, this forewarning. See to it that your peaceful ways do not engineer your undoing."

"I see, and-"

Before you could ask more questions, the dragon zooms away at untold speeds towards the sun, where your eyes can no longer follow. You shrug, as it seems like mystic hocus-pocus to you, however, you can't help but endure a sense of foreboding as it washes over you. The Dai Li open their mouths but you silence them with a swift gesture.

Year's End, 7699 B.C.

"Imperial Father, your census." A Dai Li agent takes a knee and presents you with the Imperial Scrolls of Information.

Harmony: 4
Community: 3
Fortune: 3
Defence: 5

Your crier, feeling jealous, stands in front of the kneeling Dai Li agent. "As you can see, Your Eminence, all four areas have experienced general progress! Our people are happy thanks to the martial arts tournament we hosted. Our population has increased due to the balance favouring us. Our coin has seen increase and our army is formidable and ever-growing."

Another Dai Li agent speaks up. "This is all true, Imperial Father. However, the Dai Li believe that we still have much more work to do, particularly in the areas of Community (Population) and Fortune (Economy)."

Spring, 7698 B.C.

About a month into the new year, you're told of a small city-state that wishes to join your Dynasty. However, they are perpetually hassled by wild men, and would appreciate military aid in fending them off.

A) Send in the Imperial Conscripts to dispatch the wild men!
B) Send in the Dai Li to dispatch the wild men silently!
C) Sorry not sorry.
