"I'm doing alright, I mean it's a nice day out. What's there to be down about. Well besides losing your vehicle and possibly being stranded out here. I mean it could be worse."

"Yeah. Just, situational awareness."

The light ahead grows brighter, and at last they see a break in the trees. The road emerges into a field of corn, heading towards a familiar-looking cluster of rustic buildings. It looks like a big square of farmland, bordered on each side by woods, with roads leading out from the village center in four directions. As they emerge from the trees, the blurry signal resolves and Koi once again picks up two sources. One from the village center, and one from somewhere out in the corn field. It sounds slightly different, like an extra string of notes over... wait. That signature... could it really be another KX9?

As he scans over the area like a wary soldier, Titus spots a group of people in long-sleeved white shirts and black pants with suspenders cutting corn nearby. But he almost freezes for a moment, seeing one taller than the others. Standing in the field, with a basket of corn and a scythe, dressed like the rest, is a Draconian.

"Wait. What." Zoom in visual in direction of possible contact. Send directional ping.

12 noted repetitions of the music and counting. Stray thoughts on formulating a function for quantifying annoyance by number of repetitions.

The corn obstructs your view, even in the infrared due to the warming glow of the golden sun, but your communication signals have clear access. In response to your ping, you receive a burst of thoughts. They're inarticulate, mostly just feelings and images rather than words. Surprise, joy, confusion, curiosity. Background enjoyment of sensations of warm sun and clear air. Flashes of possible expectations for your appearance. The musical signal coming from that direction quiets slightly.

Titus looks at the Draconian for a few seconds and then calmly starts typing something into the screen on his forearm.

"I'll be right back, I have to go... take care of something." As soon as he finishes speaking the soft gold lights on his armor turn a harsh red. He reaches to his side and unsheathes his sword and starts to walk towards the draconian in a slow but careful manner. He suddenly grips the base of the blade with his left hand and quickly pulls the sword, the resulting heat from the friction igniting a gas emanating from the sword creating a thin coat of plasma on the blade.

Rajita looks in shock at Titus drawing his sword, and begins to walk to the scene, raising her arms.

Titus continues to walk towards the draconian and yells out to it. "You, Draconian! Step out of the field!" He examines the Draconian as he nears.

He notices Rajita approach and gestures for her to stop.
"Stay away madam, if he's an agent of the empire, then it could be extremely dangerous."

The Draconian, facing away from you and seemingly absorbed in its work, seems momentarily startled, then turns around to look at you. It's a little over 7 feet tall, covered in dark red scales, with the all-too-familiar crest of horns sweeping back from its skull. Between its eyes, there's a decorative golden plate riveted to its face, bearing the unmistakable symbol of that empire.

Curiosity. Concern. Suspicion relative to apparent memetics at work. Frustration directed at the music.

The thoughts sent your way are still mostly inarticulate, though the answers demanding words come in the standard symbolic encoding format.

>Feelings of contentment
>Confusion

You also receive a sense of apologeticness, a desire for you to approach within visual confirmation range, and the reciprocation of your first 3 queries.

Rajita raises an eyebrow at Titus' efforts to deter her, but with a roll of her eyes, she starts walking back to where she originally was.
