Shiiit. Yes I am. No more research right? Cause I either need better armor, a better body, or better weapons. Or I need to be smarter. Nah, I think just the first three.
That's right. No more new things.
go to the origional drop crate and stash the dart gun and try and switch out grenade launcher for the mortars, use one of those white phosphorus grenades to booby trao the enterance to the crate and move on North west, try and stay to the side of where the zombies are. Reload mortar drones, other drones fly out to a 400 meter circumfrence and watch for anything other then teenage mutant ninja turtles from hell.
Particle cannon drones stay near the crate and fire on any super soldiers spotted by the outer drones.
(don't think I'll get to this part, just there for next turn and my plan, may be changed depending on things)
When done all of us move out north east for 200 meters. stay in an alley way, drones keep alert via same formation.
Also did a frickin nuke go off? That's the only thing I can think of that would produce that effect, check for radiation flowing from where the "sun" just was
That definitely wasn't your avarage man portable explosive. Tactical nuke comes into mind. Your sensor array, impressive as it is, doesn't extend all they up to radiation band associated with nuclear materials. All you can tell is that it's freaking hot there and a bunch of hot objects have exited from it on ballistic trajectories. Weather forecast: concrete with touch of rebar.
You turn on your heels to return to the drop container, stash the dartgun there, and trap the entrance best you can. Grenade launcher drones are quickly reloaded from your personal reserves; total 8 frags, 5 concussions, 5 white phosphorus and two smoke grenades are spent on four remaining grenadier drones.
Your built-in grenade launchers cannot be replaced on field.
Drones spiral out scanning the ground below while you start once again walking to... northwest? You are basically running back and forth, so at the moment you are back in the intersection where spider dude shot you first time. Using sonar to figure out difference between human and mutant lizard is futile effort with distances involved here, so you end up ordering drones out of stealth every now and then to make sure what your eyes on sky are seeing.
You aren't seeing much hostile action yet. Besides those monsters, but they are largely east and north of you. About 150 meters to west, in direction this road is going to, you detect a buch of cars coming. Vans transformed into assault cars. Few have heavy machine guns mounted on them.
It's starting to rain aftermath of the presumed nuke. While you are focusing on the terrorist cars, one concerete boulder hits your mutilated particle cannon, destroying its optics and reducing it into a very expensive club. Upcoming column of cars also receives its fair share of fallout; leading car gets one piece right into engine compartment. All houses around are getting too some concrete through roofs, which elects frightened shrieks and shouts from civilians in hiding.
Fix/reprogram the drone for my own purposes.
Fixing the drone is as easy as changing battery, but reprogramming it is not gonna happen. It's remote controlled, which means you need a controller with compatible software to establish secure connection. You could do a factory reset, but that doesn't really erase the problem, it only transforms it into another problem. You think the best you could do is to turn it into control signal detector which would help you to home on signal source. Doable with your current stash of electronics, but it may not end up being very good.
People driven insane by your area denial weapon leave you happily alone. Wonder what's up with that?
All: No! I didn't get augmented with increased willpower and train myself in mystic meditation arts and resisting every kind of porn that exists to be compromised by some fucker blaring the mental equivalent of the History Channel all over the local mindspace! Harness my willpower! Chant mystic mantras, I remember I learned some of those! And more importantly, hone my collective mind to a razor's edge on the whetstone of my indignation at the current set of behaviour I'm displaying. Power through the effects and quickly and efficiently kill everyone not me until I find and eliminate the psycho dude.
Drones: Right, we'll want to stay away from that area for a bit. Both conduct a search for the psycho effect guy.
"OM VAJRAPANI FUCKING HUM! OM BLOODY CUNT VAJRAPANI HUM YOU BASTARD! DID YOU HEAR ME? I'M SO GOD DAMN ENLIGHTENTED RIGHT NOW! ALLAH REBAR THIS!"
Needless to say, but your willpower doesn't really seem to stand much against this. Parhaps if you were chanting mystic mantras right from the beginning, but right now you aren't in correct mindstate. All of you shoot randomly at any people you see, who are indeed numerous. And you are not shooting very precisely either. Everyone on outside fires at insane people they see on roads and rooftops, recon north slaughters the remaining five WASWAS fighters and ensures they stay dead by teleporting slices off their limbs. HNGGGG!
Henry Squad:
Cloudy with a chance of concrete and rebar. Let's hope that blast was a one-off.
Dilemma: need an elevated position, but also take cover from debris.
Blast-tossed concrete should be warm, show up well against the sky. SPU predicts trajectories.
Threatening debris can be dodged as long as someone watches the sky.
The more time spent getting into position, the more chance the target moves away.
Gunther Squad:
The thing about smoke is, using it before you're detected just lets people who want to kill you know you're there.
If large debris start falling the buildings won't offer protection. Rooftops may be safer, easier to see what to dodge.
We'd stick out like sore thumbs... but I have a brilliantly stupid idea.
((On one hand, the cloud would probably be suspicious just because it's an anomaly. On the other hand, Recon units don't have cannons, and I don't remember specifying whether they carry the active radar suite in some other way. They could just have it mounted on the same spot the cannon used to be, sort of a low-profile variant. Or they could not have it at all. I'm fine with either, and leave it to your discretion.))
The idea Gunther has for concealment on the rooftops is given to him by his close encounter with the mutants. They're scaly, lizardlike, with sharp teeth and claws, covered in blood and bloody rags... guess who else is scaly and lizardlike with sharp teeth and claws? Blood and bloody rags are in plentiful supply, and the latter will do well do cover up the gear everyone is carrying. Also the aux cameras, but that will just have to be dealt with.
(The mutant plan is stupid unless the idea is to appear less threatening as the mutants will notice the difference at any ranges worth using and everyone else will likely already be gunning for the mutants On reread the idea actually has merit there are already mutants on the other roofs and noone will consider a small group of mutants a threat, On reflection the metal will still stick out to visual observation well better then nothing)
Both squads move to the roof tops with the recon watching the sky and keeping the others safe on the way pick up bloody rags and drape them over their bodies and hope if anyone is watching they aren't looking to close. Rest of squad try to locate any others who have the same idea as well as the invisable pricks and who ever is hiding in that smoke and stay hidden as much as possible
The mutants are fairly human in stature otherwise. Bipedal and shit. Makes them a bit different from you. Time to recall those "walk with back legs" lessons.
Yeah, recons shouldn't have active radar, though there's a free spot for it.
Gunther party slaughters rest of the mutants on road and gets up to roofs while picking up usable rags from corpses. Autocannon on your back makes you rather suspicious regardless how you drape the rags on you, but that's something you have to deal with. Dodging shit falling from sky is fairly easy, but stairs back down was ruined by one rather large piece of concrete. Not that you really need those particular stairs. You can simply walk onto next one.
Around the smoke/dust/concealment cloud you can barely spot larger type of quadcopter drones popping into existance and disappearing a second or two afterwards only to reappear in another location. Either it's very fast or there's more than one. They appear roughly 50-100 meters around it.
Swarm of about twenty of those tennisball sized drones you saw dive bombing earlier flies now over towards closest helicopter fire. And towards the local military type people who just stopped to examine it. Looks like you may have company close by.
Harry's party is completely safe from heavenly dangers, not a single boulder falls even close. Therefore they are free to continue with original plan to go around. They reach a startpoint of constructed canal, but it seems to soon take 90° turn to west. The startpoint is basically another bridge over the dry river. And there's headlights of cars visible in west.
squad 1: continue moving slowly and scanning for whatever it is that's doing this shit. Destroy it as soon as it's found. replace your optically attuned nanites if you have to.
Clone 4: broken launcher optics? well then, guess we got to adapt. repair the optics, or improve the nanite "eyes" until you can see roughly 400 meters out with perfect clarity and togglable magnification.
artillery: continue to spread out within the current area, and open fire on any targets that appear.
Squad 1: Hell if you know. Nobody is exactly taking responsibility here. That colum of cars from east apparently went where closest petrol fire is happening. You direct one swarm there to observe activity and discover few things. Source of the fire is a crashed transport helicopter. Near it is one of those cargo containers you too were transported in. It's open, and militants are scouring it and its surroundings. Another swarm is directed to south and they discover a small horde of lizardman monster mutants one block south of the roundabout you just reached, on eastern side. The swarm could go dropping grenades there if you want to. Flying killerhunter detects corpses of those same mutants on the road going west-northwest from here, the road is literally littered with them. Zooming in, they appear to be mostly beheaded or bisected. Some corpses are still bleeding. Done quietly and very recently.
#4: You arrive to the possible building to set sniping camp on. Possibly some sort office building by looks of it. Windows are all shattered here.
All of you stick fingers into scopes and set factory swarm rebuilding optics. That gets fairly quickly done, though end result is slightly more milky because of countless refraction points this reconstruction method causes.
Ground type hunter killers do not have line of sight on anything that makes valid target, but they could launch some gray goo on those cars and people the swarm is spotting.
By "drone thing", I meant the "disguise drones as birds and send them high into the sky so I can see the entire battlefield and/or into positions that can see in my blind spots" thing. I'm going to assume that I did that last turn.
Wait until one supersoldier kills the other. Snipe the victor with two overcharged shots (one from my sniper rifle and one from my arm-cannon).
Also, locate all of the other supersoldiers with my bird-drones. Keep the drones where they are, of course- just examine what they can see from their positions.
Alright, they'll be little larger "birds" because in order to make convincing hologram the holodrone must be fully inside it.
Those three went inside building, so you don't have line of sight on them. Besides they went in all together, all wearing identical equipment. Not typical for these occupying people. Supersoldier formed from multiple people? Judging by what they shout inside they seem more like deranged buddhist monk chorus, chanting well practiced, but very deranged mantras. And... you hear those very same mantras in the very same time with exactly same pronunciation and accent from south? Followed by muffled sounds of powerful large caliber weapon. Peeking behind corner, and using your birds on sky, you detect four people with same outfit as those who went in the building near you, except these have different weapons. Two have sniper rifles and pair of mines. Other two have heavier desert combat armor, silenced pistols and... blowpipe? They appear to operate as a team, though.
Now your drones on sky with poor eyes. Area west and southwest of you appear to be in full chaos mode. There are growing fires, people on roads and rooftops acting weird, and you can even hear those closest to you, their screams, shouts, singing and laughing melded together. Through one drone on south you find a drop container in intersection of three narrow roads, similar to the one you were in. It's about 200 meters directly south of you, but getting there requires little adventuring on those alleys.
ATHATH? ATHATH!? ATHAAAAAAAATH!!!!!
Due to things, I won't post much on the weekends for a while. Sorry.
Not a problem, neither do I.
