B

This is our country, our law. Their idea that laws move with them is ridiculous.

B, the whole point of a weregild is to make sure these things get compensated and no feelings are hurt. And if they can't be trusted to pay a weregild, they're hardly good potential allies, are they?

It's a matter of respect.

This is why we need Wise to be progressive :I
Although there are conformists who are wise too so :v

Do the gods have any mechanical effect?

Maybe.

Maybe not ;v

Who knows.
> Pious trait.
We need that.
We need to improve our priests! I: They're probably the only pantheon people here! (Also it'd make the Damdamians grumpier so yay! Priestly conflict? :-X)

Also dear goodness. THIS is exactly where our Wise trait does apply :/ In the approach to pantheonism, there's also the clash of multiculturalism and dealing with conflict (ie for contrast; what the ancient egyptians had to deal with in several castes before, depending on what period of history is being checked and examined)

I'm really in favor of invoking our Wise trait no matter which choice because either seem lacking (ie A could be having a 'pay compensation' while B could be 'open learning') but that may be in the matter of following it with a good die roll.

B.
We can rectify misunderstandings, and approach them to learn more about their law despite the shortsighted misgivings the latter may give over the former (since the former affects our subjects moreso in the short-term, while we can easily handle the long-term given how 'relatively few' our aggrievances in the land are [Elven collateral civil war/keeping peace with Khanate/not aggravating the Republic]

You demand that the lizards compensate the grieving and angry nobleman for the death of his son.

Quote
3*

They hiss angrily.

"You tell not Xanga to compensate for something they did right!"

"I had enough of this!" The nobleman draws his sword and rushes at the Xanga; the trident wielders hiss angrily and move to intercept him.

Results: one dead nobleman, two wounded Xanga, seven pissed off Xanga, ten guards armed and ready.

A) No claim, no problem! Hastily tell the guards to sheathe their swords.
B) That's enough of leeway - time to kill the savage beasts!!
C) Demand that they pay for what they did or there will be consequences!

I was fearing a 1! :I
Where's our wise trait I:
We need libraries! [sponsored by the priesthood!...which was actually a thing before]

...A seems like to be a 'less time, better choice' option but...err, a '3' isn't that bad.

C

Even if the nobleman attacked first, we're fucked. We can't just let it be known that wandering merchants are allowed to kill nobles. That's. Well. A fucking terrible precedent to set, considering we're a noble. Not to mention we can't just piss off all the powerful people in our country, our power base is a house of cards at this point, the army doesn't like us and has already shown that they are willing and able to dispose of us, the clergy doesn't like us and has already shown that they are willing and able to dispose of us. If we turn the noble families against us there's going to be very little actually keeping us in power. Besides, by the Xanga own laws they have to die now, they have insulted us.

1) This is awesome.
2) I really respect you (Haspen) for not letting things get more complicated over time, whilst still keeping things endlessly interesting
3) Is this inspired by the game Reigns?
4) C. A multicultural and tolerant society does not mean an anarchic society where you can get away with murder by killing even more people. They shouldn't have to pay for killing the nobleman- that was self defence- but the murder of the son was illegal and should be treated as such. A Wise king should do the Just thing.

There is no C option. Or custom option at all. That's how it's stayed simple :P
