In his reply he expresses his outrage at the rude writing of your letter, and your proposal in general. At the end of the letter he writes that if you're not interested in his daughter than you aren't worthy of being part of his family in the first place.

You are so heartbroken that you decide to marry your distant cousin. At least she is quite pretty.

800 AD, Winter

The winter is unusually harsh and cold this year! It even forces the mountain bandits from the north to come harass some important (especially in such harsh weather) settlements for food (and, of course, fancy loot).

One day when you're convening with your advisor and military officials about the color of the royal army banners, a young man, brandishing a blade, bursts into the throne room!

Curse the royal guard, it never does its job properly!

"I am rightful heir of the Caucath, the previous King of Lauthbas!" The youth shouts. "I challenge you to a duel, you filthy usurper, so that I can restore my family's honor and retake the throne!"
