Unfortunately, at this juncture the above is correct. Had we not foolishly fought to the last man before negotiating (which would also mean we were negotiating after having just won a battle, rather than having ignobly lost a siege), we might be able to muster up the strength to hold onto our rightful territory. But not today.
And not tomorrow either, because he will be their vassal, and they will protect him if we try to reclaim our territory.

That being said, perhaps we could negotiate for some of the Damdamian land instead? Maybe we can hold onto the southlands, if we're lucky.

This is a bad idea. All of our enemies have proven that they don't respect deals. Giving them these things for peace only means one thing. They have more resources to rearm and come back for us later and crush us again and again until there's nothing left. Honestly we should have fought to the bitter end, why not go out on high instead of being slowly chipped away?
