It wasn't that long ago, was it? Besides, it sounded like the senate wanted us to conquer them- perhaps having such violent barbarians under their 'protection' doesn't look good in their idealistic republic.

It was actually almost exactly a decade ago. However, I did misread it, the several years comment seems to be involving the possibility of them doing things in the North at all. Upon rereading The Chunug tribe offer seems to be more open ended then that. So. Yeah. Whoops. I've edited my vote accordingly.

890 AD, Mid-Spring

Your daughter, Aife, gets a terrible stomach fever that puts her into bed.

Fortunately, your healers once again get her back into shape, although they seem rather worried by her various bouts of ill health recently.

890 AD, Late Spring

One day, as the Army cautiously prepares for an attack against the Chunug, your peace at your study is interrupted by a delegation of noblemen from the Court.

"Greetings, Your Majesty. We're here to ask you to change the order of succession." You don't get to speak yet.

"Queen Elana," begins another noble. "Your heiress, Aife, is truly a gifted child, excelling in history and lore, and in martial combat and in skills of diplomacy, but after prodding the healers we discovered that she is surely a sickly girl. We do not want a heiress that shall die from a fever two months into her reign, or, gods forbid, she dies in childbirth along with her newborn child!"

"Your other daughters, Eirike and Eiga, are both of good health even if they're not as good as their sister. We ask that you name one of them as Heiress in Aife's place."

A) How dare they insult your family! Threaten them with dungeon if they ever dare question your succession judgements again.
B) Agree that having a sickly person on a throne only invites trouble, and make the third eldest child of yours, Eirike, as the heiress to Luathbas throne.

A. We live in a world of magic, certainly we can find a cure to this sorta thing eh? Can we not save up a wad of cash to attract a sorceress? They can give the gift of health, if I recall. Stop spending all our money on the filthy peasants guys.

Edit: Yeah, it looks like in 854 ?attracted? by our ?eight? wealth score a sorceress showed up and gave us the gift of health in exchange for ?seven? wealth. We're pretty close to being able to afford that. Might not happen the exact same way. But, it seems like a good thing to strive towards.

"Your Majesty! Do not forget who set you up on this throne!" The rest nod in approval of their comrade's words. "We can just as easily take you off it if you will endanger the future of our glorious country!"

B) Back off and change the heiress.

On the one hand, they are correct in that having a sickly monarch can be an issue. On the other hand, having a gifted monarch is worth the risk, I think. It sounds like she would be Wise, Martial, and Charismatic. Okay, so, the martial trait won't come in handy much if she is too sick to fight, but still.
Let's just hope they don't start a civil war. Aside from being a threat to the country, it would interrupt our invasion of the Chunug. Which, in case I have not been clear, I believe to be a critical priority for our nation.

If it should come to be that, heaven forbid, Aifa die, then one of the younger sisters may take over. But until then, we have already declared one heir illegible. We shan't have another!

If Aifen is gifted she will succeed. If needed we spend our time to make sure she won't die if needed we get the help of dwarven magic, sorceress, priests of life and maybe even demonic help other stuff.

Sickness dealt, we can prepare the ground to a time where the second queen will lead Lathuabas to a golden age. and better this kid learn a bit of medicine.

They quickly evacuate from your room. Tch, sometimes you just gotta be rough with your people.

890 AD, Autumn

The Army have marched against the Chunug alongside the Kiwis, quickly claiming some lands where few settlements and cities were under rule of Chunug!

This triggers a response from their tribe which then sends three thousand of their horsemen against the combined Army.

Hundreds if not thousand die during the ensuing skirmish and the worst is lost of half of the Oliphaunt troop as the nomads had enough skill or luck to blind the mighty beasts and turn them into pincushions.

The report continues on with a counter-attack against the resting horde next day.

This battle went much better than the one day before, and the Chunug were beaten. In total, about two thousand of Kiwis and Luathbasians were lost during both battles.

The Army is pressing westward through the lands of Chunug now.

Meanwhile, the governors of the cities in northwest report that the Hurthlings are at it again - they have been seen wandering and picking through farmlands, or accosting lone travelers. There have been no thefts or muggings, however. Therefore, this is just a report, not a prompt for action.

Few days later, your gate is visited by an emissary from the King Tinwulf of Dahnia. Naturally, you let him in.

The fur-clad emissary bows and approaches your throne.

"Queen Elana! King Tinwulf sent me here to ask for men or resources, bbecause a troop of almost three thousand elven warriors, clad in chainmail and riding unicorns, have appeared over night at our borders and have been laying waste to our settlements and farmlands with sickly green flame that is hard to extinguish! Our soldiers have only meager success as the elves seem to be able to disappear their troops during the night. Truly the elves have decided to stop tip-toeing around us and want to conquer us, is what my King believes!"

A) Surely he did something to offend the elves, so that's his problem to solve.
B) Order the Army at Chunug to send some troops to Dahnia at once.
C) Army is too busy but we sure have enough money and supplies to send them to Dahnians.

Dang. Elves. Why can't they just leave us and our fractionally elven bloodline alone? You'd think any grudge they held against (looking it up...) Aolineniya would've blown over by now.

Anyway. We can't divert troops away from the Chunug, so the best we can do is money... although I'm not sure if we should spend it. It would take the elves a year or two to conquer Dahnia (if they even win), so it is not an urgent problem for us personally. And if they do come to fight with us, it would just give us a chance to negotiate, maybe end this stupid war for good.
