Unfortunately, they were not as loyal as you've thought. The next day, about the two-thirds of those supposedly 'loyal' to you deserted the moment they met with the enemy. The others tried to give them hell for desertion, but had to flee to the safety of the walls of the capital city!

Some people inside the capital who were complaining about the Army were beaten and mugged by the desperate soldiers. Your loyalists number about a thousand compared to ten thousand of the combined Army and Pantheon militia. That there is no word of noblemen across the country lifting their fat asses to help you only helps understand the depth of this rebellion.

Just before the dawn of the next day, an officer of the capital's guard informs you that an envoy of your brother Feodh is at the gates, and wants to see you immediately.

A) There already was diplomacy and there will be no more!
B) It won't hurt to hear what the messenger has to say, right?

"King Romuald, my master, Prince Feodh, have sent me here to ask you to abdicate to stop the uprising from turning into a bloody siege of the capital. Prince Feodh will assure yours and Lord Asbach's safe passage northwards. Prince Feodh is also certain that once the year of regency passes he will be able to rein in both the Army and the clergy alike."

A) Abdicate.
B) Dismiss the envoy.

B. Sure, numbers aren't on our side but terrain is. Yes, it's ten to one but we can easily even that up with the walls.
