J seems to be the best "boring" (read: practical) option. Wisdom is a solid runner-up.

As for the more fanciful options, I'd stay away from artifacts; we're prone to losing them. A guardian beast would be rad as hell but not actually all that useful. The spell keeping away fanciful creatures might backfire... or we might not have to deal with dwarven fuckery again.
