The same day, the Marshal requests an audience with you.

"MY GOOD LIEGE! Shall you come along with me and the new recruits, and provide leadership in the upcoming battle? After all, you are expected to lead the forces from time to time!"

A) AFFIRMATIVE! I shall travel south to lead my men to GLORY AND VICTORY!
B) Apologies, my dear Marshal, but I seem to have caught a cold, and therefore cannot fight in the coming battle!

You assure the Marshal that this time you will personally lead your men into combat, and promise to bring glory and victory upon them! The Marshal cries a bit, touched by your noble declaration.

In few days time, you arrive at the Army camp at the border between the southern lands and the Capital. Your army numbers 6000, mostly spearmen and swordsmen backed by units of light cavalry; the spies and scouts believe that Lametanian army consists of about 5000 to 7000, a large percentage of it being swordsmen backed by formations of dedicated archers.

On the evening of the same day you learn that your opponent in charge of Lametanian army is no one else than Duke Parappapos himself; half-brother of current King from previous marriage. Is there anything you wish to do before the battle?

A) Nay - TO BATTLE!!
B) Invite Duke Parappapos for peace talks - let's try and see if we can solve this in a diplomatic way!
C) You remember something about old tradition of disputes being resolved by one-on-one duels of the chieftains. Maybe, just maybe, we can invoke it today?

You send a messenger in which you offer to negotiate.

Next night, under cover of darkness, Duke Parappapos arrives in your tent, and you two sit down for some secret discussion.

You tell him that the claim of his half-brother is weak, that you both have evenly matched armies, which will result in a lengthy bloodshed to determine the victor. You try to appeal to his conscience and logic, and then you even attempt a bit of praise. As the moon passes its zenith, Duke Parappapos makes his decision:

"These are all fine points, but I have a goal to achieve, and I support my half-brother. We shall battle tomorrow, and I wish you, well, not victory, but at least some good luck." He then leaves, and you prepare for battle that shall occur next morning!


As the peasants elsewhere begin working on the fields, the horns announce the beginning of the battle!

The initial skirmishes go very badly for your Army! The Lametanian forces find an early opportunity to press against your flank and deal lots of damage.

Then a small cavalry unit breaks through the formation in front of your position and charges towards you. You see the crest on the armor of the man leading the charge - it's Duke Parappapos! You may flee to save your life (and put (un)funny thoughts in the minds of your soldiers), otherwise it's time to put on your helmet and BE A MAN.

A) Fleeee! I dun wanna die after just ten years on the throne!
B) CHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRGE!!!!

The world spins around you as you fall from your horse and crash on the ground with one of your eyes not seeing anything and the other one looking as through fog.

The Regency period governed fairly well; the losses of the southern territories were regained by 813 AD (and Lametanians since then did not try again); the Augas province, seeing the completion of the advanced fortifications, held well despite numerous attacks that occured since 812 AD. The relations with Hurthlings were good and many time they have provided your people with their knowledge, increasing the foodstuffs and thus giving ground to population boom.
