Maybe I'm doing it wrong but surely the first cave isn't intended to be a pain in the ass? My process thus far is Leech Seed the local Barewl and then trade tackles until it faints as I don't have any water, ground, or fighting moves yet.
The Barewl can be a pain, yeah. I got into a pretty good rhythm using Leech Seed and then Vine Whipping them into the ground, as they weren't resistant to it. Assuming that you got the green starter (which everyone should! Green cat is best cat).

Gotta say, the occasional lagginess isn't killing my enjoyment of this game at all. It helps that this is the first pokemon game I've played since Red, waaaaay back in the day, so the formula is pretty well new to me again.

Barewl is hard if you dont have a fighting type. Fortunately you can get mankey at the tall grass near the entrance. (A low kick is enough to 100-0 them, unless they have sturdy, which leavws them at 1 hp)

I finally got to the point i was in my original save. And have just beaten the second gym. It was way easier than i expected. Now im trying to catch buizel and lotad in route 3.

aaaand it happened. the devs had to take down the download links due to Nintendo(well, it was actually a safe measer, they havent been contacted yet).

oh well, its not like 1.5 million people downloaded the game before. so, yeah, anyone who wants to play will have to find an alternate link.

as for me.

i finished crossing route 4 and 5, finished the questline in the 5th city and im making way throught route 6. it takes a little more time because i dont usually spend money on items. i just walk all the way to the pokemon center.

i may stop to get some pokeballs instead. running low on them and plenty of stuff to catch.

Really sucks for these guys, they put a hell of a lot of work into developing their own lore, pokemon, setting etc.  I really hope Nintendo doesn't crush them, maybe if they keep it quiet until the new official games have been out for a few months they can avoid getting trashed.

I hope it stays like that for now. Never had such fun with a pokemon game.

As for me.

Most of my team reached lvl 20 and got 30 especies. The only one left is that fucking buizel...

the difficilty is dope here.

Not challenge mode? Just started limited-healcenter Nuzlocke run and heading toward first gym, which in retrospect may not be the best way to enjoy the first playthrough!  :P

Having grass starter helps a lot though. No crit ability is godsend.

Nuzlocke mode is something i dont want to touch...yet...i havent played much past first gym due to save loss.

I only ever Nuzlocke anymore. As soon as I saw this thread my mind immediately jumped to it. I got Y last year and still haven't played it any way other than Nuzlocke. I love the added challenge, and that losing something actually has an impact. Truly, DF has reworked how I see games in the past (lemme check my time here) almost six years to the day, plus the few months before I actually created an account.

i think i will take it after finishing normal mode. like in most games.

as for other stuff

the road to the 3rd gym is LONG, you have to cross like, 3 rutes basically. and not only that, but you find your rival almost nearing the city. so be prepared.

fortunately there's a resting house like half-way there.

most of my team has evolved. now i just need mankey, cublbug and orchynx to evolve.

EDIT: and they should up the find rate of Buizel, fucking otter didnt want to appear. according to the wiki its rare, but i cant even see whats the chance of finding them

The devs expected it. They stayed very quiet up until release, upon release they spread it as absolutely far and wide as possible, and they built in a patching system that doesn't require redistributing the entire game (so that once the game is out there they can send out patches without conflicting with a cease and desist order on distribution).

It's literally the textbook you'd follow if you wanted to release a fan game in spite of the company that owns the IP.

The 3rd gym was quite hard. But doable at the end. But the 4th has proven really hard. Need to powerlevel mankey but the idiot just keeps dyng in combat. They only reliable pick for that gym is jerbolta but i dont want to overlvl it.

Speaking of the patcher, if it's giving anyone else the trouble it gave me, their forums have a very simple fix:

1. In the Pokemon Uranium folder go to the "neoncube" folder and then open "neoncube.ini" and notepad or any other text editor.

2. Scroll down until you see: "/Patches/patchlist.html".

3. Change it to "/Patches/patchlist.txt".

4. Now your Patcher should work as intended.
It's worth double-checking just to make sure. After getting their latest update the game runs quite a bit less laggy, so far as I can tell.

Also, has anyone actually caught a Buizel on route 3? I would very much like one, but I'm starting to think they don't exist.

I can confirm it exists in game. caught one in my original save. I tried to catch y another on this one but it seems it has a really low change of appearing. Its harder to find than lotad

EDIT:

Finished with the 4th gym and the second nuclear quest. Got me a chimical, was missing a fire type on the team and got strength. Been trying to returns to the spots with boulders.

Got the fossil sidequest and chose the tusk fossil. Need an ice type or something as backup because theres a sidequest against a dunseraph and nimflora does shit against it.

Also trying to complete 50 species

had to start anew due to another crash while saving (damn CPU).

have just finishing route 6. my team is raptorch, lombre, barewl(rock smash slave for now), comite, baashaun and eshouten.

i want to evolve Lombre but i dont know if Ludicolo can still learn habilities while leveling or if its like Arcanine which requires to max lvl habilities with Growlithe first.
