I was under the impression that the only things that would change would be the "ages" after initial world generation, and therefore the only thing that would change would be the cities and stuff around it.

Am I missing something? Aren't seeds simply a guide for the map generation, not the map itself?

The map is so you can find the location on that specific seed.

Also, you should:

1. Build a wall around your island
2. Have pumps surrounding your fortress that can draw water from the river
3. Have it all connect to a singular lever
4. Wait for someone to siege
5. PROFIT

Edit: Also, I've done something like this previously. Not natural, though...

I'm not the type of guy to do unnecessary things, even in games. D:
I mean, the thing is basically unassailable anyway.

Then again, I suppose this map is perfect for testing out engineering projects, since you can carry them out in peace, assigning most of the dwarves who would otherwise be soldiers as masons, architects and mechanics.
Has anyone ever made a water-timed computer?

That being said, I should probably think of something witty to put here.

This is just perfect for a Self Destruct Mechanism. You only need mine out a relatively small section on one z-level above the canyon floor, replacing with supports linked to a Big Red Button. Then, when an adventurer comes along and pushes the shiny button, DOOM!

... What's that look? Surely I'm not the only one who's first thought was how to turn this into a deathtrap.

EDIT: I sees... Limited depth. Ohs well. You can always make the canyon deeper for an insane engineering project.

Ooh, I just got a funny idea. Dam off the river above the waterfall using floodgates, and let the river drain off. Build a false entrance in the riverbed near the waterfall. When they get close to the false entrance, open up the gates and drown em. Close the floodgates again and collect the precious equipment.

I just discovered a HUGE magnetite deposit on the mainland, just southwest of the island, on level -3. This is great, since this map has lots of lignite and bituminous coal as well.

How did you get a screenshot of a local map like that?

Am i the only one noticing the little, tiny, path onto the island in the southeastern corner, among those tiny island patches of land surrounding the main island? I'll try to paint a little circle over it in paint and repost it, gimme a sec.

edit: Here, this red circled spot. Is this not a connection from the island to the mainland?
