Fission metroids are phazon-based metroids. If anything, they're a more advanced version of the phazon metroid.
Phazon metroids have no further known evolution due to the forced evolution done to them by the pirates. Fission metroids naturally evolve under phazon exposure.
Phazon metroids are normal metroids with the ability to phase through walls.
Fission metroids are metroids which are immune to all attacks except for a certain beam attack. This is similar to the power of the metroid prime which they evolve in to.

Which would you rather be?

sadly, you realize that you are in fact, a phazon metroid, however, you can evolve into a prime, if you go hopping metroid first.
