In a land mostly known as Arachnisle, there lives a small community in a town called Charak Settlement. Creative, I know. They live, work, play, and sleep, just as any other community does. But, they're community lifestyle revolves around one core aspect. Charak ranching. The creatures known as Charaks inhabit the entire island, and can be vicious if not treated properly. They take the form of giant insectoids, or arachnids, sometimes even reptiles. But, there are still more to be discovered. Citizens known as Charak Ranchers go out in groups, or on their own to tame these beasts. They then take them to their ranches, where they care for them and train their skills, until bringing them to the monthly Charak Fair. This is where the Ranchers show off their best and brightest, in feats of strength, skill, and fashion. You are a newly recruited Charak Rancher, and have just received your official licence! With it, you are also granted a free barn and farmland area. Here, you will bring up a team to win you the jackpot! If your rivals don't do so first, that is...

Spoiler: Mechanics (click to show/hide)

Gameplay: The game will be played as a competitive farming game. You must go out into the wild to tame Charaks, and then raise them at your farm, before the monthly Charak Fair. When the fair comes along, you'll need to present your finest Charaks, to beat the other players who will be doing the same. There will also be events that happen, that you must attend, or forsake your social life. And in a community such as this, close relationships are important! You have to buy crops from somewhere.

Charaks: Charaks come in many shapes and sizes, and the stronger ones live further out from town. Beware, as they may send you back home with no gain at all (There is no death.) If you have a high enough Charakology, you'll know just the right places to spot a good Charak, and will be able to find them easier. This also helps when raising them. When raising a Charak, you must feed it an appropriate food (either read up on the kind of Charak, or use your Charakology), and then spend time with it, performing different activities. Each Charak Fair has a different theme and focus, so prepare for anything! You'll hear the theme a week before the Fair. You can also use Charaks to help you find more Charaks, by riding them out into the wilderness (if you have a saddle) or bringing them along with you to stun wild Charaks.

Crafting/Cooking: You can craft and build things of many kinds if you have the materials. You can discover recipes by reading books, or by experimenting. So try things out! Don't be afraid to go a little crazy with your ideas. You can also cook food using crops you harvest or find in the wild. You can feed these to your Charaks to grant them buffs, such as better training speeds for short times, or permanent skill buffs. You also need to eat yourself, to refill your energy.

Energy: Each day, you are given a set amount of Energy. Whatever you do that day will use energy, and you must either sleep or eat to regain it. You start with 100 Energy, but can temporarily (and sometimes permanently) enhance that cap with certain meals.

Gardening: You can plant crops in your farmland (which begins with a cap of 10 crops, but you can improve it with enough money), and use them to cook or craft things, or just feed them raw to Charaks. Some Charaks prefer raw food, so do your research! You must water your crops for a certain amount of time before they will grow.

Money: You can use money to buy things. You can gain money by selling Charaks or crops, or winning the Charak Fair.

Relationships: You can use your wit and charms to make everyone in town fall head over heels for you if you know the right way about it. You can also charm PCs, but they'll decide whether to reciprocate or not.

New mechanics may be introduced later on. Every dice roll will be with a d8.

Background: Born to a Wasp mother and a Bee father, Belze is a black-sheep of her village. She is a Hornet. While wasps and Bees can interbreed, having a Hornet for a child is considered bad luck and only by the child making a name for themselves would a Hornet child ever be accepted. Thus upon reaching adulthood, Belze journeyed out to make a name for herself as a Charak rancher.

Background:She's lived in the outskirts of town for all her life, where her family has lived for many years more.  They run a garden stall at the market on occasion.
Appearance:She looks like an actual butterfly, if actual butterflies were human-scale, had legs and arms (and, well, secondary female characteristics, which are covered by normal clothes for modesty) and stood with the edges of their wings to the ground.  So, not really that much like a butterfly, but certainly not very human at all.  She even has antennae instead of hair.

Personality: Jeremiah is Charak Settlements resident grocer, and he operates a small store in the centre of town. He sells almost everything you could need if everything you need is related to gardening. He's very knowledgeable on gardening as well, and may even teach you a few things if you get close enough to him. He's generally quite outgoing, and will be friendly to all who he meets. But, if they don't reciprocate, he'll instantly become reclusive, and dislike the person quite immensely. He generally spends his time either reading, playing the saxophone, working at the store, or gardening. He also keeps a small pot of succulents at his desk, to remind him of his passion. He gets new seeds fairly often, so check back regularly!
Background: Jeremiah was born and raised in Charak Settlement, but his parents always wanted him to become a Charak Rancher, like the generations before him. He had too strong a passion for gardening to change his mind, but his parents understood, even if reluctantly. He has lived and worked here for over 20 years, and he's now reaching his mid-40s.
Appearance: Jeremiah is a common garden cricket, with a sleek black shell covering his entire body. He has a ponytail stretching out the back of his head, which isn't very long. It's green in colouration, and is obviously an attachment. He doesn't appreciate when people point that out, however.

Name: Yvonne Terosoto
Gender: Female
Sex: Female
Species: Mantis
Personality: Yvonne is the resident Chef of Charak Settlement, and prepares many a delicacy in her seaside restuarant. She has been in many relationships, but they have all split apart, due to her being somewhat emotionally unstable. Otherwise, she can be a good friend, once you get past her inital harshness, and she sticks by her friends closely. She generally spends her time fishing, cooking, or practicing martial arts at the local forest area.
Background: Yvonne has travelled to Charak Settlement from a far off land, deciding to end her journey of many years here, where she has settled down. She doesn't speak of her past, and so, nobody knows really anything about her. Besides that she was a widely known chef, but she faked her own death in an attempt to escape from the day-to-day business of being a star. She much prefers the quiet life. She has been in Charak Settlement for a short amount of time, but is in her mid-50s.
Appearance: Yvonne is a generic female mantis, with a green exoskeleton, and forelimbs which she wields adeptly. She also has quite a large rear, although most decide *not* to point that out.

Personality: Irathil is the resident... well, resident. They don't actually have any specific job, although they do handiwork for pretty much everyone, giving them a general knowledge of most things. They live in a caravan near the forest area, and will spend most of their time either in there, playing games, or working. They also enjoy going around and socialising. They are usually open to new people, and will forgive those who wrong them easily. They are generally easy to spend time with, but nobody ever really develops a close relationship with them, due to their habit of making everyone a friend. Maybe there is a reason...
Background: Irathil... doesn't ever really speak of what happened before they came here. They just arrived one day, out of nowhere. They're only 19, so they only raise more mysteries than they solve. Most people don't really mind though.
Appearance: Irathil is an african american male human, with blue hair styled into a mohawk. They have a large scar running down from their face to their thigh, which they do *not* like talking about. Obviously. Because of this, they often wear heavy amounts of makeup in an attempt to cover it up, but it does not really succeed in doing much. On the bright side, they do like quite appealing to the eye, and are fairly fit.

Personality: Comes across as very affable, but is not beyond manipulation to get his way. Likes to be very organized, and while he has enjoyed some of the finer things in life, the experiences he had in his youth mean he does not expect things to be that way all the time. Tends toward humorous small talk to out people at ease, failing that, his winning smile never fails!

Background: Despite his family never really having enough wealth to make ends meet, the Vulpine people never let anyone's background get in the way of an individual's worth. His penchant for conversation lead him to choose the diplomatic corp when it came to his 2 years of public service after the mandatory education period. He stayed in the corp after his time was served, eventually becoming a highly regarded diplomat for his people. He came across Charak Settlement in his travels, instantly falling in love with the place, and vowed to return when it came to retirement. He read up a little on the Charaks toward the end of his service, meaning he isn't completely useless when it comes to them, and kept a small garden in his down time from schmoozing various delegates.

Appearance: A smartly dressed fox, no matter what he does. His fur is as shiny and well-maintained as when he was a pup, though he is getting a little gray in the muzzle area.

Species: Human

Personality: Chester is a soft-spoken and helpful person If you ask he'll almost always try to assist you with something, to radically varying degrees of success. Despite this he has a major self-confidence issue and never likes making mistakes, even small ones. He has a soft spot for Charaks and enjoys taking care of them almost more than interacting with other people... except spiders. Chester hates spiders. To say Chester would rather bed a Charak than even touch a spider is an understatement.
Background: Chester comes from a long line of Charakologists, tracing back many years. They were responsible for officially discovering many species of Charak, from the common tothe extravagant to even the elusive Lavender Lizard. His mother is an esteemed member of the field, passing down much of her skill and knowledge on the subject to Chester. He lived with her on the mainland, where she still works, until he moved to Arachnisle when a job opened up there. Chester exchanges letters with her every so often and she tells him of new species she encounters on her expeditions, while he describes the various misadventures he seems to end up in in the community.
