"Tarzan"-style feral children?
« on: August 02, 2016, 06:32:50 pm »

As the name suggests, this would be humans, dwarves, elves, or goblins, who were left behind/exiled/had the rest of their civilization or family destroyed as children, and were abandoned in the wilderness. These children learned to survive and fight on their own, and lived in the wilderness, sort of like Tarzan.

It could also be possible for a feral being to be adopted by a pack of animals (wolves, apes, etc.), whom the child would be raised by.

They would generally be reclusive, choosing to stay away rather than fight, but they would be territorial, and if you build your fort on their territory, or if one of your dwarves attacks or gets a little too close, they will fight viciously.

Support this, especially as I had planned a similar suggestion inspired more by the first Conan film than anything.

But how do you intend this for happen?
Would it be just a world gen thing or do you intend for kids that survive in the wild, without dwarves close to him, to not develop language and become neutral to wild animals?

Essentially, this boils down to Outsider Adventurers appearing spontaneously in worldgen?  Putting them with adoptive animals is nice wrinkle, but I'm not sure how it would be implemented.  It would need to be a unit-level characteristic, though of course the creature raws could specify that all members of a species start with [AT_PEACE_WITH:WOLF:ALL] by default.

If the outsider is only at peace with his particular pack of wolves, it's conceptually much easier... the wolfpack become more or less a "bandit group" with the outsider as a member.

In the Spring of 253 the giant wolf, Lupus tamed the feral children of the mirthful plain.
