I paved over one with a finished goods stockpile and my dwarves threw some clothing on top and then I sent it away with a caravan.  :D

No idea if the ants actually crept into the clothes though.

The traders were selling 'Giant Olm Leather'.  I've heard that there were 'Olms' in the game, but it seems very creepy to know that somewhere, in the deep places of the world, there are 'Giant'-sized Olms lurking for unsuspecting dwarves.  It gives me the chills just thinking about it...

While not as entertaining as some of the stuff you guys have pointed out, I have found it quite cute how my Fisherdwarf, after being brutally murdered by the very fish he was trying to catch, was drug under the lake and left there in a watery grave with the only sign of the struggle being a splattering of blood alongside the small lake.

Fear the sturgeon.

Bats attack! My sandy home has about two dozen bats flying around in it now. They just abruptly came out of nowhere and they won't leave. They're flying about harassing my dwarves and dying on occasion.

After reading about them, I finally found a chasm after generating a new world last night.  Starting just 1 z-level below ground level, it extends down to the bottom, throwing out three branches toward the south end.  The usual trogs, antmen, cave spiders and giant rats are there, as are at least three "Iron Men" living in troggy caves.  Luckily, those denizens are still about 3 levels beneath my lowest excavations.

Very cool, and what's even cooler is that I found the chasm's edge two tiles away from the stairs leading down from my entry hall.  Now the only way to get into the fort's depths involves crossing a narrow drawbridge...very Khazad Dum...

I don't know if this was in the original, but after I found my cave chasm, my dwarves started naming the caveswallowmen.  It was adorable!  I had the place fully walled back off, so it wasn't because there was any killing going on, either.  I figure they made friends through the walls (and good walls make good neighbors).

If you don't request anything at all from Human merchants, they get annoyed at you.

My animal trainer started tantruming after having been drafted to take down a berserk mechanic who'd had a failed mood.  I noticed that, after she destroyed a door or two nearby, her job type switched to "Attend Meeting."  She ended up in the Mayor's office, where I suppose the mayor was using his interpersonal skills to calm her down.  He eventually got the animal trainer to stop tantruming (all the while updating the books).

Dwarven management apparently has an open door policy.  That rocks.

Too many rejected trade offers with traders, and they will refuse to trade with you. Rather annoying, since they seem to make bartering attempts... but really they just go for a "Offer us at least this or we have no deal" counteroffer. That and they're my only source of wood >.<

Actually it is possible to haggle them down from their counteroffer. You might need a bit of skill in some of the interpersonal skills (I've started giving my leader a couple points of negotiator/persuader lately and have managed to shave some off their counteroffers).

I dammed the outside river.  During the winter, with the river frozen, my dwarves channeled/mined the river both above and below the surface, then rewalled the sides.  When spring came about, the downstream part of the river drained away completely.

I love this game.
