Name: Sophie Potts
Age: 19
Gender Female
Sex: Female
Personality: Sophie is quiet, composed and polite. She tries to keep an air of professionalism in her line of work, keeping her emotions hidden with a slight smile and a taciturn nod. She works hard for her principal, often to the point of overworking herself; indeed, her loyalty is such that it would never break, even under pressure. Sophie is talented, easily picking up whatever she sets her mind to; this also partially stems from her studiousness and drive to learn as much as she can to further herself. Hidden underneath her composed facade, however, lies a deep insecurity that she won’t live up to the family legacy, driving her to work herself sick, and to attempt to be the best servant-cum-bodyguard she can be, sometimes to her detriment. Beyond all that, however, one might find Sophie to be pleasant to be around, a kind and sometimes even joyous woman often burdened with emotions kept bottled up in her pursuit to keep with her family legacy.
Appearance: Sophie is a woman of average height, with light-reddish hair and clear blue eyes. Her build is light and athletic, but it belies physical strength borne of training for years of being prepared for her role. Her figure is not especially striking, though this lends itself to hiding her true capabilities. Sophie often dresses simply and modestly, often in a maid’s outfit (or a dress suit, depending on the occasion) as befits her line of work. She is rarely seen without busying herself with some form of work for the dorm or other.
Backstory: Since the dawn of superheroism and supervillainy, the Pennyroyal family has served some of the greatest and best superpowered individuals- both heroes and villains- serving loyally and for many years at the side of their principal. The Pennyroyals are known in some circles as skilled butlers and bodyguards alike, being as talented at fending off henchmen and sidekicks as they are at cooking and cleaning house.
Many Pennyroyal clan members participated in the war against Valentia, with quite a few dying in the service of their masters, either protecting them from Valentia or dying in vain attempts to damage her. Among the survivors was one of the better known clan members, Jarvis Pennyroyal, who had personally dueled with- and won- against several mind-controlled superpowered individuals despite lacking powers of his own. Serving under the superhero Pulse, he and his mistress fought back-to-back during the final battle, with their stand against tides of hypnotised followers being the stuff of legends.
In the aftermath of Valentia’s death, many casualties had been racked up that day, and Daedalus and his alliance stood upon a broken city, with many heroes and villains alike having died. However, to their delight, Jarvis and Pulse found each other in the ruins, neither having fallen victim to hypnotism or death. Both having survived and wishing no more of this life, Pulse retired as a Hero afterwards, wishing to live a life of peace with Jarvis, who she’d fallen in love with during the war. For that purpose, she instead assumed her civilian name, Anna Potts, before marrying her lover. Their marriage was one of the few success stories to come out of the aftermath of the war, and proved to be fruitful.
Sophie is the third generation of this coupling, being the great-granddaughter of Anna and Jarvis Potts. None of the descendants of Anna and Jarvis had ever demonstrated powers, and indeed many of them had grown to be Pennyroyals in their own right, skilled servants and bodyguards in the post-Valentia world. From a young age, Sophie herself was expected to live up to the example her deceased great-grandfather had set, and was trained in a school near Andrewson by one of the premier bodyguards of the superhero world in the essentials of being bodyguard and butler alike.
She didn’t mind spending her childhood here; after all, she always saw her parents during holidays and she had friends enough here. Regardless, as she grew older, however, she began to ponder whether or not she really was worthy of living up to Jarvis Pennyroyal, the man who had taken on tides of Valentia’s hordes to protect his mistress. This worry only intensified as she matured into a fine young woman, who people expected to fully to live up to her ancestor; this was compounded by her excellent performance in the final test of the school, in which she successfully protected her principal from (simulated) attacks by a superpowered pyromancer. Her academy sent her to Avalon Academy, a school recently established for the education of superheroes, in the hope that Sophie would be able to take advantage of the education there to learn how best to fight and protect her future master.
Secretly, Sophie hoped that here, she’d be able to find a way to prove to herself that she could live up to her great-grandfather- or to leave his shadow and pave her own path.
