The last sentence of the paragraph before the line break just screamed them getting their horny viking on.

And it's still better than twilight! :P

And I think our newfound interest in the white christ may just be all the surrounding stuff that was happening around the same time. The people's front of judea is pretty interesting :P

Anyway, looks like we have the money for a proper house now. Good timing with it too, we already have a couple of extra people to shelter.

Savages

The Ormrs Call is creaking gently in the breeze as your ship rounds the bend into the bay in front of you. Corv, his men and several young boys from the village have accompanied you on this scouting mission.

You took them along as much to have them out of Jomarsted as to train their bodies by having them row. That it was Corv's idea and that his men didn't have to row officialy had nothing to do with that.

You have been steadily sailing closer to the source of smoke on the horizon and the moment you came around the bend you saw that it was a village, even from here you could see that it was clearly not of Norse or European Architecture. They used longhouses but they were different than the ones your people built.

Now the only question remained as to what to do with that village.

"Perfect source for thralls if you ask me. My men have been bored and unruly for the past months, bashing in some heads might restore some discipline and let 'em vent. Plus the boys could use the training."

Corv grins at you broadly, scratching his reddish beard, his smell sweet from mead....where he always got it you can only wonder. Hrolf Half-Troll was nodding enthusiastically. The massive geatish navigator wasn't a man of many words, but then again when you had a face as expressive as his you didn't need much talking.

Odd moves up on the other side next to you, Mjoll standing slightly behind her like a silent shadow. The girl had begun to shadow your fiance for a while now, being all protective about the older woman, since she clearly didn't know how to use a weapon.

"Pah, You would pillage our own village if you had half the chance Corv. Jom, i could consult the runes if they are peaceful. Then we can decide if we want to approach peacefully or attack them."

Corv's Plan: Hang back and wait for the cover of darkness to raid these folks at night.

Odd's Plan: Consult the Runes, then decide

Mjoll's Plan: Attack now.

Consulting the runes is never a bad idea. We can always use them to help us get the edge if we want to attack anyway. That's just good strategy, that is.

Hmm... I'd say that consulting the runes is a decent plan. Though if the result is unclear we go in peacefully, ensuring that our warriors are ready for them to try pulling a funny stunt.

+1 to consulting runes, if they are friendly, we can trade for massive profits.

I think we might be investing in logging due to the huge demand in iceland what with everyone seemingly ditching it to give a one finger salute to the norwegians.

We probably also want to get ourselves a proper seat of government, mostly so noone thinks they can just set themselves up as boss.

Pretty sure our sword works well enough as an incentive not to try anything funny like that.

True, but if we are off on some random scouting expedition...
If somebody tries to, essentially, take over the colony by force in the <week we'll be gone with most of our men still back there, in a society with a tradition of democracy, we're unpopular enough that we'd be assassinated upon return anyway. We don't need to be paranoid.

Savages Part 2
"Do it."

Odd seats herself and begins unravelling a number of stones with carved runes.

[ ??? ] after several minutes of chanting, praising the gods and a small blood offering from you (by cutting your wrist) she seems to enter a trance.

"By night, the fires bright, the gods of war arise...by day runes to your memory, need of them shall be had."

the voice isn't hers, it is an abyssal whisper unsettling most of you. After all rune magic is a womans purview. The most superstitious invoke odin or spit out against evil. You and Corv merely look on rather confused.

"What the fuck is that s'ppose to mean?" the old varangian exclaims angrily as Odd comes around again, who merely shrugs. "The gods only give the advice they want sometimes its better sometimes its worse, rune casting is a difficult art. Why do you think Odin has not yet prevented Ragnarok despite all the seeing into the future he can do?"

What now?

Corv's Plan: Hang back and wait for the cover of darkness to raid these folks at night.

Diplomatic Approach: Drive up in broad daylight and engage in some heavy-duty diplomacy.

Mjoll's Plan: Attack now.
