+1 to inventory and ranting. We should also make sure to check our wounds. Weren't we disemboweled, and with a broken arm and face? Having been maimed might explain the blindness.

Even if you found a suitable opening, I doubt it would prove all too satisfying. And it might leave some nasty wounds, depending on the moral high ground's geology.

Nah, our eyes weren't hit specifically, though I would expect any of the other wounds to be present.

That shouldn't be so esoteric to him!
Why, many modern children from widely different cultures know that a Viking killed in combat is supposed to be carried to Valhalla by the Valkyries!
Even not being raised in their culture, I wrote the entire text from what I already knew; I only had to look up on the wiki for Einherjar (single (or once) fighters) and Fólkvangr (field of the host) because to me they are strange foreigny-looking words I couldn't remember.

I think that's the same as saying that a Christian never heard about heaven, hell, and the purgatory, or about angels and devils and some guy called Jesus... Even if that Christian knows nothing else, that's really just the most basic stuff.

I guess he is a follower of Norse mythology only in name. Kinda like the people who know what heaven and hell is, but dont know the background story.

Imagine it more along the lines of: I know about Valhalla, Hel and the rest i didnt give a fuck about. Remember we are illiterate and all myths and storeis and tenants of our religion were told orally. If as a little boy we walked out on grandpa telling the stories of how the world came to be thats how it is...anyway.

You gingerly touch your eye and blink rapidly in pain as you touch your eyeball directly. The sensation is absolutely disgusting. Carefully you feel your body and soon enough you recoil repeatedly in pain as you touch the open wounds were The Half-toll has cut you. Your jaw is still a mess and generally as you begin to touch your wounds you feel immense pain.

Cursing everything around you, you rant against the Gods, against the Valkyries and thats basically it since you don't know much more. Generally you are mostly in pain and pissed off now.

You are tired, hungry and thirsty, you are blind and in pain...right now it couldn't get much worse could it?

Well sitting around won't fix anything.

Get a stick, preferable a straight one. Use is as a cane to help you find your way. Listen for the sound of running water. If you hear that, go towards it, if not pick a direction and begin going in it as cautiously as you can. We might as well try and find some water to sup and clean ourselves up.

Scrambling around in the blackness surrounding you, you finally find something...its your axe! Carefully you use it to avoid boulders and other major obstacles but nonetheless you stumble repeatedly.

Still everything hurts, every breath is horrible pain and your entire existence sucks...but you are moving again.
After a while you hear the rushing of a river.

Carefully you walk towards it. It takes you the better part of another few hours to finally reach it, stumbling around as you are. When you stumble at its edge you greedily push your hands inside to get to some water and immediately cut yourself...no that wasnt a cut, that was a bite.

Hastily you retreat from the river filled with whatever uglies might be inside. You quickly ripp parts of your clothes apart to banadage yourself...one more part that hurts...

Curse the gods again. If we still have our helmet, use it to draw water and retry, otherwise rest a bit and keep wandering about until you find something interesting.

Use our helmet to scoop some water for use and cleaning, repeat if we need more water. Then we should look into making ourself a fire to rest by the river, everything hurts and is really uncool, so we should fix that, More bandages may be needed after we clean our mortal wounds.

Damned fuckers buried us alive!

You have no helmet, neither on nor with you.

Tired you drop against a nearby rock outcropping and fall asleep...or at least you try to. The Pain you are feeling, the difficulties breathing and a constant level of noise keeps you from resting at all.

Nonetheless you close your eyes and eventually fall into a restless slumber, any rest denied by horrible nightmares.
You awake to a blinding light flittering past your closed eyelids.

When you open them you first realize that you can see again. The next thing you see is a pale light in your vicinity. It is flickering in the air, suspended by nothing, a ghost light?

Looking around you you find yourself still next to the river...thirsty you approach it and nearly sink your hands in it before you realize what is wrong with it: there are blades in it.

Blades are flittering down the river at an immense speed, cutting through it like pikes...the fish not the weapon although actual pikes are drifting with the current too.

[93-25 Piety] Gjöll. The River of Blades...you groan. And immediately buckle over in pain. You are in Helheim or near it in any case. You realize that you are very much screwed. Cursing you try and fail to figure out why you would end up here.

Finally you decide that it is time to leave and there is only one of two places to go.

A. Upriver, to unknown Places

B. Downriver, towards Helheim and Eljudnir, the Hall of the Queen of Death herself, Hel.
