Enable Taming For Everything Query
« on: July 25, 2016, 06:50:45 am »

Hi,

Simply query - how can I enable the taming of everything unable to be tamed?

Primarily "Forgotten Beasts".

You need to go into any part of the 'raws' (the world .txt files about minerals and monsters and stuff) and copy an entry in its entirety and paste it just above its self. It opens up the ability to tame forgotten beasts but has some unintended side effects  :D

Forgotten beasts are impossible to tame. What George_Chickens is telling you to do is called duplicated raws. It really messes up the game. You get stuff like squirrels replacing dwarves, elephants replacing elves, bronze colossi replacing humans, fairies replacing goblins, dirt replaced with a constantly flashing rainbow cycling between literally every inorganic material in the game, and I'm pretty sure there's no way it makes forgotten beasts tamable. Though it can be kind of fun to see just how messed up duped raws can get. It's very easy to fix if you don't want it though, just remove the duplicate entry.

As for your question, it's a bit difficult. You'd need to add [PET_EXOTIC] to every creature that doesn't have [PET] or [PET_EXOTIC], which is quite a lot. Even still it wouldn't allow the taming of forgotten beasts as they can't be affected by modding. If you still want to make everything else tamable though, I can give you some more information on how to do the whole [PET_EXOTIC] thing, but it would be rather tedious so it might not be worth it.

Its a feature. Impregnating booze is a planned tech tree for dwarves and this is a sneak peek at it.

I'd guess dfhack's gui/gm-editor could tame individual forgotten beasts, though they'd need to show up.

Otherwise, there is a way to export the raws of procedurally generated creatures from a save, I would not consider it impossible to change and import them back in, albeit there is currently no known method or tools to do that.

You can also change the raws with gm-editor but they won't stick if you save and reload iirc.

I've wanted to stick [TRAINABLE] on a bunch of animals to expand my war animal options in useful and entertaining ways but I can't be bothered scrolling through their raw entries one by one.

If anyone has a way to speed it up I'd love to hear it.

Alright, thanks.

A shame about the forgotten beasts though. :(

If we put them on a Restraint, do they just attack invaders though?

I think forgotten beasts can destroy restraints.
