Age of Empires II & Other Games
« on: July 21, 2016, 07:55:50 pm »

Hi all, long time df player here, I wanted to survey the community on other games you guys are interested in. I have a couple IRL friends that play DF and most of them play DF exclusively; they claim other games don't hold a candle to it (which I agree with), but one friend plays every game under the sun, and says he gets bored playing just one game.

So, my question is, what other games do you play? Are you as invested/interested in those as you are in DF? And do you like consoles, or PC games only?

For me personally, the only game I play other than DF is AOE2. It might surprise some of you to know that there is a large and active multiplayer community on Steam. It would be awesome to play with someone from the DF forums!

Hate consoles because of the lack of freedom, I tend to jump from genre to genre when I get cravings, right now I'm on a wargame craving, so I play Blitzkrieg, a fantastic WW2 RTS, Steel Panthers WW2 and Steel Panthers MBT (Timeline for that one is 1946-2025), Panzer General 2, and the combat mission games.

I started playing Heroes of the Storm again in between breaks from DF.
I only have 1 fort in 43.03, and another in 42.06.

I actually picked up AoE 2 during the Steam Summer Sale and have not installed yet, as I try out the other sub $5 games I bought.

I've lost interest in XCOM 2 and did not bother with the DLCs.

I'm tempted to try Rim World's latest release, but something just turns me off from playing RW, and instead load up DF.

I too play almost exclusively RTS and some simulation/city-builder (...df?) games. I just looked up the combat mission games, how can you stand turn-based strategy? Games like that generally feel far too slow for me. Only turn-based game I've truly loved was Rome Total War, because it incorporate real time as well.

How do those compare to company of heroes? It's the only similar game I have

I actually just played (and deleted) the most recent RimWorld, I agree that it can't hold my attention, but I'm really not sure why, on the surface it seems like a great game. Probably the low population just doesn't keep you  as busy as games like DF do, although I love the combat.

Install it and play! You'll always find games and you can play with me (avien33 - forextank11...silly name I know, my little cousin made it)

I love turn based because it allows me to multi task and relax, I think it helps that I also get approppiate music.
